Game of Thrones state of the Game Report- maybe Cthulhu gets one soon?

By Hastur, in CoC General Discussion

Very interesting. They are releasing an Expansion to the Game of Thrones core Set which will give House Greyjoy a boost up, leaving only Martell out in the cold.

Also, Paul Bromen apparently left the company. In the meantime, as they look to replace him, they are looking to revamp theOrganized Play in the near future for Game of Thrones. Hopefully, Cthulhu gets similar treatment

.

yeah i saw this early, explains why i havent got any responses to those emails. it would be neat to see coc get an expansion, even though all factions were equally represented in our coc set. another set of like 100 reprints plus some domains would be kinda neat.

I'm really, really hoping for a similar report of CoC and it looks very possible we'll get it. Even if it's bad news, I just want to hear them from official sources. If it's good news, well, yeah! Something to keep the ball rolling and the fans excited would be crucial. I feel everybody's losing interest due to various reasons. At the same time I know there are still players who'd love to play more Cthulhu.

Please let there be a new format...

This is quite the puzzle: he made such a good first impression, I thought FFG would have fought tooth and nail to keep him.

I thought Paul made no impression - no board presence and no organized play program.

Nate's letter to the Thrones community is highly enlightening. How can the cthulhu reality be any different? With LCG these two games are now in bed together. So, we are to expect the second LCG AP cycle to emerge on the heels of Julia - whispers of 120 more new cards to come. A new base set will flesh out Core and kill off most of the rest of the collectability of rares. And Nate is soliciting us to tell him what kind of tournaments we want and how we'd be convinced to travel to regionals and beyond. Thanks Nate for your most thoughtful post to date. I look forward to similar consideration when we get the word.

one thing i find neat with the agot is they said its doing better than it has in years. wonder if thats true for coc? a sold out print run in one country means it probably sold more then they expected, thats great news for agot.

I think that the LCG format is binging some new players in. Me for example. I've never played a CCG that isn't dead, as I don't much like the idea of having to chase rare cards. Now while I have greatly enjoyed ripping open the booster packs of MECCG, and Harry Potter TCG to see what is inside, I've never done Magic, nor GOT, nor any others while they were "alive". That being said, when I saw the LCG format changes, I started thinking about AGOT and CoC. While the multiplayer aspect of AGOT appealed to me, after comparing the contents of the Core Sets for each, in terms of faction completeness, I went with CoC, (I also thought I liked the sound of the gameplay better). I have not bought a full play set of the core, nor of any AP, just one of each. And so far, I enjoying it greatly. This weird semi-enforced highlander format feels a bit odd, especially as the AP three-offs are our only duplicates, not any of the core cards.

But we are having fun, my son and I, even though his Cthulhu/Hastur deck has beaten my Agency/Yog deck every game so far!

From reading comments on BGG, a lot of people who have sworn off CCGs due to the Mr. Suitcase factor have gotten into the LCG formats of both AGOT and CoC.

As an AGOT player, I'm pretty dang excited about the announcements over there. I'm fairly sure that CoC is probably selling well under the LCG model also. Wow, how cool would it be to get a Core Set expansion that featured 3D domains like that Greyjoy house card? I see some awesome potential. Also, since it sounds like the new position would handle OP for all the card games, I can only hope that would mean a renewed vigor and cool ideas across the board.

Where can we see the Greyjoy House card, Kennon?

Click on the link from Hastur's post, the one starting the topic, and you will see the House card and more.

Wow, SPECTACULARLY cool cast resin domain card for AGoT !!

Hi,

Over the weekend I attended the Adepticon convention. FFG had a booth and was selling their Warhammer RPGs. While I was there, I talked to the FFG guys about CoC. While not their particular area, they did have a few nuggets.

Right now, FFG is exploring options about organized play. They are not sure what's the best way to go to get people playing. So they're going to do different things. One thing that probably won't happen is promo cards. FFG wants everyone to have equal access to the card pool.

Paul did leave. Morgan also left. So there aren't many left to pick up the slack and they are looking to hire someone.

FFG is planning to release a new LCG game at GenCon. It looks like the format is doing well for them.

On a local note, the packs for both GoT and CoC are selling briskly at my local game store. Now, if only the people bought the packs would come to our monthly tournaments.

at the last gencon there was an easter egg of sorts in the guide to LCG that they were handing at. it looks like it will be a Warhammer LCG (a revisiting of sabertooth's ccg??) as it had Sigmar's Hammer as it's icon.

Yummmm~

Warhammer LCG...

So, after reading that report, is it me or does it feel like the CoC LCG is not quite getting that level of treatment?

I can understand the fantasy element being a little more popular with the masses versus the slimy, otherworldly nature of Cthulhu, but I hope they spread the love (tentacles).

Oh, that's just the way of the world over here. On occasion we're dealt in. When Thrones went AP we were briefly at the forefront. I'm thankful for Thrones and its impact on the creation and survival of cthulhu. But we'll always be second and smaller. Except to ourselves.

So what you are telling me is that the player base for CoC is much smaller than AGoT?
