Imperial Aces, eh? Well, what about Rogue Squadron?

By SpectreSix, in X-Wing

Seriously. I would throw my soul at the screen for these pilots:

-Corran Horn

-Wes Janson

-Erisi Dlarit (<-- Turncoat xP)

-Lujayne Forge

-Inyri Forge

-Gavin Darklighter

Basically if they were in the Rogue Squadron books/comics, they'd be perfect for this pack. I mean, Wedge, Biggs, Garven, Luke, and Porkins (rumored to be in one of the big ship packs) were not the only X-wing pilots around. And maybe even a Rogue Squadron X-wing title that allows extra torpedoes?

You should add Derrik "Hobbie" Klivian into the mix too man. Guy might get shot down, but he's tough as nails and a longtime member of Rogue Squadron. :D

Rogue squadron would be awesome, but I think we are more likely to see ships where a single repaint could represent multiple pilots first, in Imperial Aces we see 181st which is a whole flight group, and the Emperors Guard which was numerous pilots.

The second thing is Imperial Aces gave a boost to a ship that needed it a bit. The X-Wing currently has more pilots than most ships and has another couple coming with the large ships. So I think we are more likely to see the Y-Wing or the A-Wing. possible Aggressor squadron pilots for the Y-Wing and green squadon pilots for the A-Wing?

I'd be good with Green Squadron. I mean, just look at their insignia.

Yep that was fun to paint.

An extra torpedo slot for Rogue Squadron pilots doesn't really seem sufficient. That inevitably costs points to equip in the form of the extra ordinance even if the card itself is free. I agree that it makes sense for them to release repaints that are generic enough for multiple pilots (note that the semi-repaint featuring Porkins and Janson doesn't significantly depart from the base models). Also, they haven't utilized squadron markings on the X-wings so it would look odd if they suddenly decided to include a Red 1 and Red 2 for example, it would break from their pattern and so far it seems like tinkering with their manufacturer isn't exactly an easy thing to do... Furthermore, Rogue Squadron is traditionally depicted as having red markings so a simple color swap, which would be easiest, would also be inaccurate.

I think it makes more sense for them to release another repaint, generic with slight differences, and a squadron card like the RGI. You can use it on any X-wing mini and multiple pilots can come out with it just as in Imperial Aces. Minimmum fuss, maximum playability.

That being said, I likewise think FFG goes A-wing or Y-wing, essentially non-X-wing for a Rebel pack since the X-wings already see a lot of play. You have to remember from a buisness POV, these specialty packs also indirectly encourage the sales/uses of the original expansions as people will inevitably use them with the newer cards. Call it 'Rebels of Endor.' Grant the Gray Squadron Y-wings the ability to equip secondaries half off. Give the Green Squadron A-wings a perk as well, say +1 attack die at range 2 . An ability such as that doesn't tweak the stats on the card, require a new mini base card, still allows for individual pilot abilities, and can even be applied to the existing A-wing minis. I'm not saying it has to be that ability, just that it's in FFG's (and our) best interest that it slip easily into the existing the game pieces.

But let's face it, they'll be announced for Q3 2014 and then be released in Q1 2015 so we've got time.

I could see the Y-Wing being able to equip a crew instead of a turret maybe, and the A-Wing getting a System upgrade slot.

Yep... So much ... YES... that's a great card, and I'm getting the feeling I'm going to have to print out more.. as I can't really justify another 3 Lambda's just for 1 card from each.

I want a rogue squadron pack! Two new x wing paint jobs, a ps 6 generic pilot, new astromechs and a few new pilots? Yes please!

And an errata'd R5K6 that always triggers.

You'd think we'd have set up a trading forum for this by now...

"Buyer seeks Advanced Sensor cards, has 2 extra TIE/Lns and a set of range rulers for trade. Will do basic repaints."

"Seller has three extra shuttle packages, minis not included. Looking for A-wings and PtL cards. Local pickup an option."

Etc.

You could put in what you're looking for and/or what you're willing to part with, press search and presto. Idk, just an idea. I have no programming skills so it's really beyond me.

The problem is everyone would be after certain cards.

Yea, but wouldn't that at best facilitate more trading and at worst... fewer trading happens but still happens? Besides, people buy so many of their favored ships (8 interceptors for example) that surely a lot of cards go unused somebody would appreciate. To say nothing of your painting skills, Mr. Mastermind.

AFFIRM.

I like the idea of having ways of creating alternate load-outs for pre-existing ships! I'm a big BIG fan of the old Rogue Squadron games, and I distinctly remember heading about Y-Wings being able to use missiles, but I've yet to actually see it. In terms of replayability it's easy to add more pilots to the ships that already are here.

Actually, aren't the A-wings supposed to have communication jamming equipment? I know we have a 'Sensor Jammer' card but what about something like this?

[A-wing Only.] Comm Jammer: Choose 1 ship within your primary firing arc. Ship can neither use its pilot text nor benefit from the pilot text of another ship.

This would make A-wings incredibly pesky, their high manueverability helping them keep key pilots or synergy providing units in their sights, and wouldn't need to see their primary stats changed.

God, come to think of it, I'd love this ability. Somebody please make this.

whow ... thats just overwhelming ... You want to negate mighty Vaders' additional action with a lousy comm jammer?

Or even Han's cheap TL? Or Chewies' ability to ignore criticals?? With a comm jammer?? Holy molly

how about:

[system upgrade] Comm Jammer: Choose 1 ship within your primary firing arc. Ship cannot benefit from the pilot text of another ship.

- without the 'A-wing only'

According to the WEG fluff I remember reading, the A-wings jammer was intended to degrade the fire control of enemy ships so how about the reverse of Wedge's ability?

[system Upgrade] Jamming System: Any attacks made against you are reduced by one attack die.

Too powerful?

by far. this would reduce most of the empire's ships to 1 attack dice which would be a bad joke

@Rodent: Good grief, man. How long have you painted miniatures? That A-Wing looks sick!

I think at least 20 years.. I kind of have lost track of my age... Why do you need to know once you can drink...

Think about what exactly can be jammed?!

Target computers and communications. Maybe warhead guidance systems. Well yes you could shut off the enemy ship ... but we are looking for a nice and sound whatever jamming upgrade.

Think about TL, re-rolling attack dice when being attacked by sec weapons ...

How about if enemy ships attempt to put a TL onto your ship, you throw a evade dice - on [evade] the attempt was not successful. This is not too powerful yet effective

yay your painting skills are awesome, Rodent!

Corran Horn was the man! Not only a Rogue Squadron pilot, but a Jedi, as well. Shoot, he had one book entirely dedicated to just him!

He should have a similar ability to Luke but offensively. Something like "When ATTACKING, you may change 1 of your Focus results to a hit (or critical hit?!)"

A Rogue Squadron pack only seems fair after the Imperial Aces!
