Vassal Meetup

By mrfroggies, in X-Wing

I meet a lot of great people at worlds this last weekend. Lots of people asked me about Vassal and how to play X-Wing online. I'm already meeting with a couple of players to help them get started. I thought I would post some info for those of you who would like to try this out.

Here's a link to a Youtube video that will walk you through the process of getting the program all set up, and it walks you through the basics.

The audio isn't the highest quality, sorry about that. It was recorded over Skype.

If your interested in learning I'm happy to help you get started. Just send me a message and we can work out a time to play. If you have any questions just let me know and I'll answer what I can.

I've been wanting to get into it, but was a little intimidated by the UI. Thanks ks for the info.

I'll probably get into this at some point, thanks. I'm busy finishing up my final degree for the next few months, so for now I'll keep playing the occasional game with local friends. But I'll look you guys up when I get more time. thanks for the help getting started. :-)

I'm interested. I got it all set up a few weeks ago, but haven't played any games yet.

Can we play other people with this setup?

I would like to check this out but I do not feel confident in the install. I loaded Stella to run Atari 2600 games while watching a video and while most of the stuff worked I felt that there were some things I could not get right.

Yes, I've played people from all over the world. It's a great way to see how others build squads and play. Most of the players online have been very nice and helpful.

If you want I can help walk you through the install process. If you have Skype I can talk you through it and go over the basics of the UI. The UI does take a little bit getting use to, but it gets easier with use.

I may try an install myself and If i have issues we can sort it out from there. How long do you feel the entire setup would take watching your youtube channel and installing via split screen?...including pausing and such

I would give yourself a good 30min. It get's easier once you get going. There are 4 videos for this. The one above helps walk you through the install process. The others help guide you in the UI. Let me know if you need any help.

I use Vassel to test out my movements when I'm not playing anyone else. Although the "depth perception" takes some getting used to, I find it's much easier than setting up the actual miniatures.
