Refurbished TOI

By hswitalski, in Tide of Iron

Just bought a copy of TOI that came in a factory sealed package. When I opened the box, the insert was damaged, and the pieces were in ziplock bags. The remaining pieces were unpunched and in brand new condition. It is possible that I purchased a refurbished game? The game was purchased through ebay through a seller who claims that the game is brand new. Any ideas and suggestions are welcome....

I also posted this in a different forum so I apologize for a double post.

Thanks

Its possible that the seller has access to a cellophane machine. I returned an incredibly buggy PC game once by putting it through one at work because the big-box retailer wouldn't take back an opened copy.

Unless you purchased from an online store, you are probably out of luck.

If you paid by PayPal you can contact them and state the goods were not as described. I once had something not turn up and PayPal refunded my money, so worth a try.

This is what PayPal says in the UK, presumably something similar in the U.S

"Buyer protection protects against items not received and items that are significantly different to the seller's item description. There are some conditions for protection: You must file a dispute within 45 days of payment, the item must be tangible (i.e. not a service or download) and your account must be in good standing. PayPal's dispute team will review your claim and may award up to £150. Items sold by eligible sellers may be covered up to £500. You can see how much your item is protected by checking the green PayPal box near the top of the item page"

If all the components are there, and the only damage is the insert. I would just let it go. You will proberly toss the insert as your game expands beyond the box anyway.

My copy of TOI was in the same state as yours. I thought someone had got to it first and bagged up all the pieces. Also the turrets on the panzer IV's were really badly stuck on with white glue all over the detail.

I'd much rather the figures came still attached to their sprues and the tanks 'unassembled', as I can obviously spend more time and do a better job than some poor chinese feller with a million of these things to do before he gets his rice cake.

in reponse to this subject i use a company if FL. called"coolstuffinc.com...they always have the lowest price on TOI stuff the map pack with shipping was less than $28...worth a try next time for all..

I had similar problem.I've bought new one TOI in internet shop and figures were in fatigued ziplock bags.It is strange, because in DOF they are packed in oryginal plastic bags. How the figures should be packed in oryginal TOI?Could you please help me?

I think the set you purchased may simply have been damaged in transit. My set was bought of the shelf last week from a reputable dealer (who I've bought lots of games from.) The minatures were in resealable bags and, on closer examination, don't look as if they've been punched out of a spruce and also appear to be diecast. The tokens were in pristine condition and needed to be punched out of the cards they came with. I think it is simply a case of the printing we purchased was manufactured with resealable bags included. I also bought Talisman, another FFG game, and it came with all minatured and tokens in resealable bags. My best guess is that your insert was damaged in transport - the box may have been shaken too much - or simply that you were unlucky and the insert was damaged as the box was being packed, not that it's a big deal. I doubt that it is referbished.

As a former FLGS employee I can also confirm that we were allowed to take games home in order to "become more familiar with the product we sell" and then bring them back, baggie stuff up (if needed), and then re-shrinkwrap the box. I can't say as I agree with that policy any more (great as an employee while in college... not cool at all now that I'm an old man), or that this was your case, but it's a possibility. At least in my case, I was always careful to ensure that all the pieces were returned in good condition... but YMMV.

My copy of TOI, that i bought from an online store, came with damaged inserts and the figures were in what looked like a very used zip lock bag. All the pieces were there and a little tape got my insert back like it was suppose to be. I think the sheer weight of the boards maybe cause this damage in transit.
