Smelly gamers . . .

By Mesrob, in X-Wing

it's the comments you make like these that make me understand why you're such a **** good miniatures painter

get outside and enjoy the sun sometimes

but don't stop the painting either.. you're very talented at that ;)

The sun it burns.

Stupid day star...

all i got to say is if you take 20 to 30 people (pristine condition) who go someplace for 8 to 12 hours with little air, blistering heat, no Ac and your going to end up with some stinky people leaving their jobs.

if you take that same 20 to 30 gamers (pristine condition) who enter the gaming store at 10 Am for a tournament and 8 to 12 hours later with little air, blistering heat, no Ac and your going to end up with some stinky people.

anyone who says they have went to the game store, played all day and then left smelling like a daisy is a **** liar....... :D :D :D :D :D

Oh boy.

I can tell this thread is going to get a few sideways looks.

Sometimes I think it really depends on the people, and such factors as diet, exercise, and age; when I was in boot camp I never had enough time to shower and would go a week sometimes without one, but I never smelled bad which really surprised me. I was exercising a lot, eating healthy, and I was 10 years older than everyone else.

Or so you think....

I thought this was simply a strategy? You know, smell the funk, everyones eyes well up, cant see the cards, the dice, the extra moves, win the unique card, sell it on Ebay, king of the Geeks!

No?

So what if you changed your name to Daisy? would you now be fine?

I think you have to look at social interaction in 2 ways. The first is competitive interaction, where something is expected of you and you are rewarded for being better at it than others. This could be playing politics at the work place, talking to girls etc etc. The second is non competitive, where you aren't judged compared to others, such as buying snacks at a gas station. I think a lot of gamers have simply given up at competitive social interaction, and game more for the game itself than the socialization. So what happens is they collectively agree to remove almost all standards that are generally expected of you, and hence the stink. If I'm at a party trying to talk to a woman, and I smell, it won't happen. If I'm at a game store, and I stink, I can still play the game as well as if I bathed, and 99% of gamers are extremely passive aggressive, so I run no risk of being socially ostracized for it.

I took a break from gaming for the last year and a half to focus on other aspects of life and came back to a game store recently, the smell is just one of many reasons gamers have their weird reputation.

i'm sorry but bathing regularly here in 1st world countries is something that should be done regularly

there are zero excuses as to why you couldn't take 5 min out of your day before you leave the house to clean yourself off.. if you're just going to game in your underwear at home, then fine. but if you're going to be out in public then you should shower. miniatures games are social games that require social interaction with others

this is for the benefit of everyone around you.. nobody wants to be the smelly kid. because the smelly kid has little to no friends and even his friends are embarrassed for him

I personally do not stand the stink. I will tell people they smell, at first politely and if a after a few weeks they do not conform to hygeine then I will be blunt.

I have refused to play aganst smelly people before.

I am a teacher and if a kid stinks I take them outside and tell them they need to consider bathing and changing their clothes on a more regular basis.... in a polite way

The gal at Game Empire would spray Fabreeze into the air during Pathfinder day until the gamers complained to the boss.

Got to love the irony of that situation. :D
