sorry not to scale

By Duke of Advil, in X-Wing

I have been looking for a way to introduce my boys to X-Wing without fear of breakage. If given free rein, my boys ages 3 and 4 would crush my entire fleet faster that 2 billion Alderanian's could be silenced with DS1. So I came up with a solution that will allow them to play a watered down version of the game without me loosing my hair. After they can play without the ships falling apart I know I can introduce them to the actual miniatures.

I am just going to start them out with these ships, dials, attack dice, and the templates.

Now I just need to figure out how to get the pics to post here not just the url.

There is a share button on the bottom of flickr, it will generate BBCode, just paste that into your post. No need for anything beyond that, the forum will parse it.

The code looks like this:

The result is:

Very nice!

Oh very nice. Though I have to ask...you are keeping them up with their lightsaber techniques correct? :P

Awesome! Very clever!

This is probably the best thread on the internet

Brilliant!

They both have been in Light Saber Training since May 4 of this year when they built their first Sabers at a local library. Pilot school starts this Saturday.

Lego X-Wing by Duke of Advil , on Flickr

That's awesome Duke. My (almost) 9 year old thinks its pretty cool too. He and I have been playing SWM for a few years now and it used to make me uneasy when he was being a little too rough w/ some of the expensive ones. X-wing takes it to a whole new level though, especially when he started flying our Falcon around a room w/ a concrete floor and only holding onto the base.

The ships I picked up about a year ago. They are from the 2011 Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar #7958. I went to the Lego Pic a Brick store over the weekend and picked up the parts for the bases and posts. I would have chosen different colors but this is what they had. I also would have found some type of 90 degree block to mount my Firespray-31 vertical... but with 2 younglings I was lucky to get what I got. I would also pick up a couple more bases, I have an A-Wing that needs set up

I must admit to starting to sweat when my 9 year old lad tried to lower the wings on my Lambda! :( :o

That looks great.. and the lego figures perfectly represent the ship being used.. Love it.

holy crab fun, you Sir won the internet for today :D

Advil, you're a good dad to spend so much time and effort to create activities with your kids. :-)

It's a fine line to walk... you want to get your kids enthusiastic about a fun hobby you enjoy. But at the same time, replacing busted minis and lost/damaged game pieces can get expensive.

Having children means you are already budgeted with regard to your 'fun money'.

I applaud your solution!

thanks for all the positive comments everyone

I love it! I'm a huge fan of Lego--I have the Millenium Falcon, X-Wing, Y-Wing, eta-2 actis, TIE fighter, and A-Wing. They look great on a shelf. I would spend the money on UCS editions of the ships, but I can't bring myself to buy any Lego models that don't come with the minifigs.

wish I had picked up these sets for myself. when I was growing up there were no Lego Star Wars sets...I think there was more than 10 years between ANH and any lego set...which i think was an X-Wing.

When did the become Mini-Figs.. they were Lego men when I was a kid..

Is mini-fig a term that was created for non-branded Lego men?

lucky kids to have a cool dad - i trained mine using micromachines until they were old enough to play with the X-wing miniatures.
