Couple newb questions about who can use cards

By Captain Kremmen, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Just got a tie bomber and a B-wing

These and many of the newer ships have a number of cool new cards, such as advanced proton missile or adrenaline rush etc.

If I had a card that came with a tie bomber can it be used by

a) only tie bombers

b) Any imperial ship with the right symbol

c) any ship from either side with the right symbol?

Also if one of the bombs inflicts a face up critical hit on a ship with shields does it bypass the shields or does it just knock one shield off like an ordinary laser attack?

Your answer is -C-. Any ship, from any side, can use any upgrade card with the right symbol. If there is any exception or restriction to this, it's written on the very same upgrade card.

Proton Bombs don't follow the usual 'suffering damage' process and as a consecuence, they bypass shields. Remember that a ship is destroyed when it has a number of damage cards equal or greater than its hull value, so a ship can indeed be destroyed by proton bombs with its shields still intact.

Thanks for that.

Is there a simple rule to follow as to which weapons bypass shields?

Simple rule is that if a source says it deals damage or crit damage, it doesn't bypass shields. If it flat out says it deals one faceup damage card, then it bypasses. The only one I can think of that bypasses shields is the proton bomb.

Jehan has it - C. Advanced Sensors, for example, only come with the Lambda shuttle, but can also be used to excellent effect on the B-Wing - the only other ship currently to have the Systems Upgrade icon. I myself flew a 4x B-wing with AdvS build at World's this year, and it was perfectly cool and legal. Any ship with the correct icon can use any upgrade/weapon/crew/modification/etc card in the game.

Simple rule? Yes - proton bombs. :D SG got to the heart of it. Hit and Crit results follow the normal rules for "Suffering Damage," which specify that they interact with shields first if any are present. Hence, the Vader crew card, which lets you suffer 2 damage to cause your opponent to suffer 1 critical damage, will still be eaten by shields.

Proton bomb specifies that it deals you one face-up damage card, which bypasses the Suffering Damage rules entirely and just hands you a face-up (critical) damage card.

Thanks guys, so simple i think i can follow it

So simple, even an Imperial player can do it. :o ^_^
