2x Firespray for Tournament

By Corbeaux, in X-Wing

Hi all,

I am a huge Bounty Hunter / Mandalorian fan and decided to get into the game after I saw they released the Firespray. While I do eventually hope they release more Bounty Hunter ships ( IG-88 or Bossk would be great ) I am happy with what we have for now.

I am preparing for a tournament and am curious if kitting out Kath and Krassis would be the way to go or if I should do something like this:

Bounty Hunter (33)

Bounty Hunter (33)

Howlrunner (18 )

Backstabber (16)

I know all the ships are stock but I almost feel like with Howlrunner's ability it might not be that bad, any suggestions on how to improve would be appreciated.

If I was going to run naked BH's, go with three of them. It hits hard and is a nightmare to kill :-)

Any way is pretty good. Can drop down to academy pilot if you want to fit in named pilots or gunners. Currently I'm running kath with merc co. Bh with ion. 2 academy

The list below can be pretty nasty. Both pilots have a very high chance of causing an enemy ship to stress (one is guaranteed). Kath's Autoblaster is highly likely to inflict damage and stress your opponent when used with Marksmanship.

The engine upgrade makes them highly maneuverable just for added "pain"

55 points
Kath Scarlet
Autoblaster, Marksmanship, Gunner, Engine Upgrade
45 points
Bounty Hunter
Autoblaster, Rebel Captive, Engine Upgrade

The following is the final fleet posted from the thread: "Kath and Krassis take to the skies!", by the original poster after taking our suggestions into consideration.

Pilot: Kath Scarlet (53)

Firespray-31

Upgrades:

Engine Upgrade (4)

Marksmanship (3)

Autoblaster (5)

Navigator (3)

Pilot: Krassis Trelix (46)

Firespray-31

Upgrades:

Heavy Laser Canon (7)

Recon Specialist (3)

Total Squad Points: 99

You can sacrifice the Engine Upgrade on Kath to pick up some Bombs, but if you're going with a pure Double Firespray, this will be tough to beat :)

Other squad recommendations:
---------------------------------------------------------------------

3x Bounty Hunter

---------------------------------------------------------------------

2x Bounty Hunter

+ Gunner

2x Academy Tie Pilot

---------------------------------------------------------------------

I like that original list, but I'm operating on the theory that upgrades are generally overpriced for use in 100-point dogfights, and therefore more ships is better than tricked-out ships.

It is not a matter of the upgrades being overpriced, but rather a matter of sheer mechanical advantage.

At the base of it, more ships mean more guns and more hull. If you're "Tricking Out" your ships, you give the individual ship better damage and better survivability, but that doesn't always outweigh more guns and more hull.

Swarm fleets are hard to beat for a reason, after all. Running ONLY 2 ships is a liability, but can still be successful if they have good enough damage and survivability.

Folks still run Dual YT-1300s, which has better damage than Dual Firespray-31s (what with having a 360* arc instead of a 180* arc), but has less survivability (2 defensive dice will mitigate more damage than the 2 hull and 1 shield advantage of the YT-1300, and that's ignoring that both Firesprays would have the option to Evade or Focus to greater effect). You can even take out Swarms, if you play excellently.

I've killed 6 and 7 Tie swarms with 2 Firesprays. It's tough but doable.

And considering that's literally a 2-ship's worst nightmare, it's considerable :D

Thanks, that's what I was trying to say. :)

With 2 ship the dice can fail you very quickly. With more ships comes more dice rolls, and a better chance you'll see more consistent/average results.

This is true but upgrades like gunner can mitigate bad dice, at least to an extent

Thanks for the replies folks, I'll let you know how it goes
