so uhmmm, yeah, POLE ARMS... a little help

By Peacekeeper_b, in Dark Heresy

So a recent challenge, more or less, has steered me in the direction of doing a Pole Arms of the Calixis Sector article. SO based on the the Calixis Sector, known cults, xenos and organizations, what kind of Pole Arms are there in the Imperium and Calixis Sector in particular.

The Grey Knights have one

the Kroot Rifle is close enough

Rough Rider Hunting Lances

What else?

The White Skars (I think, or whoever the Mongul based SMs are) have power halbred/spears.

The Eldar Shining Spears have Laser Lances, the Warlocks and Farseers have Sining Spears

The Necron Lords have those Staves of Power, the Pariahs have their weapon that I dont remember what its called. this is going to anoy me all day now as the necrons were my favorite force when I played TT.

Dagda

Essentially the Rough Rider Lance is a Krak grenade on a stick...

So: 2d10+4 X+SB, Pen 6

There's the good ol' Necron Warscythe. In the tabletop game these things don't even allow "invulnerable saves" and get extra penetration against vehicles... they're pretty boss. Necron Lords and Pariahs use these things.

Vulkan He'stan, forgemaster-errant of the Salamanders, wields the Spear of Vulkan (a top-quality relic blade). It's possible that he could show up in Calixis on a quest.

The Custodes have the Guardian Spear- a power halberd with the built in equivalent of miniaturised las- cannon

I thought that was a bolt weapon?

Originally, no. There was a brief period during 3rd ed when it was bolters built in, but the more recent stuff has been moving back to ultra-powerful las-weapons (see Draco, for the earlier stuff, and Blood Games in the Tales of Heresy anthology for the more recent). I believe the fluff in the Sabertooth CCG may be for bolt weapons, but I've not paid any attention to it.

Interestingly, there were some rumours floating around about the original Grey Knight terminators. The ones who carried nemesis force halberds which mounted a bolter near the top. Apparently they may have been variants on the Guardian Spear, or derivatives of it. I've no idea if they still say whether or not that was the case

Really? I read Tales of Heresy and didn't see any mention of las-weapon guardian spears. The Horus Heresy background (starting with the material released through the medium of the CCG, but not written by them - it's compiled in a single hardback book along with the artwork, published by Black Library) has, to my knowledge, shown the Crusade-Era Custodes using bolter guardian spears.

Rumours? They were on the models...

The rumours I was referring to were the ones reckoning the nemesis force halberds were variants/derivatives of the guardian spear.

I was fairly certain that there was a mention in Blood Games of the las-weapon guardian spears, but I could be wrong- I was typing from memory while ridiculously tired.

As for the CCG stuff (I know much of it was written by BL, but it started off as a CCG, so that's how I think of it), they were keeping the imagery fairly constant- there's some artwork in the old books with custodes (out of armour, but still), and every single picture of the guardian spear has it looking like a bolt weapon, even when the fluff of the period quite unambiguously has it as a las weapon

The Orignal RT edition of 40K has them whelding Power Spear/Halberds with a biult in Laz Canon, thease are Dark Age of Techonoldgy Relic Tech, so the weapons can be handled as easily as a modern Laz Rifle, even fired on the run.

Munchy with extra Cheese, Most Certanaly! but their is one place in the knowen Univerce where thease weapons can be found, the Imperial Palace on Terra, so the chances of any DH or RT RPG Character geting one is beound the relm of Imposable.

There is the Breacher which is technically the same thing as the hunting lance, my group has a Thrown Weapon Master from a feral world and a Mortrait at that, and he carries a quiver for compact spears and a few breachers and uses a best quality lethium (miss-spelt) spear and he does alot of interesting stuff involving pole-volts and harpooning, fun times...

the Bayonet, a knife fixed on the rifle

a Naginata or gleve, a blade on a staff
