This is about 16 minutes into BSG, on Caprica pre-Cylon invasion.

Edited by DoubleNot7The HWK-290 was never on screen in any version of the original trilogy or the prequels. It first appeared in "Dark Forces" as the Moldy Crow and was later added into canon as an HWK-290. I know this to be a fact because the creators of "Dark Forces", which was developed and released by Lucas Arts, were told by Lucas himself to make a new ship for the game. It was later added into a source book for the old Westend Games RPG.
The ship you are probably thinking is the HWK-290 flying over Mos Eisley, in the SE version of "A New Hope", was the Outrider. This was known info when the SE version came out.

Thought the Outrider was a YT-2400?

yep, different shot from the SE,
I find this comment rude, ridiculous, and foolish.
As if there is an "easy" chance that you're going to find
the Apollo 9 or a Firefly in STAR WARS Episode 4.
It may not be definitive but it's obviously not ever going to be Apollo 9 or a Firefly class ship.
Edit after taunting:
It's easy to mock when you don't have to provide any evidence.
If you look closely at the photo you notice one simple thing:
it is evidence.
If you take a closer look at that screenshot compilation, you can easily see that it's not the Moldy Crow, but rather the Raven's Claw:
Notice the "hook" on the nose and the large structures on either end of the aft fuselage which have tiny fins on either side? Same features on the Claw, but they're nowhere to be found on the Moldy Crow.
I agree the pictures from Mos-Eisley seem to be missing the distinctive K shape of the HWK. I'm not entirely sure about it being the Raven's claw, but noticable dip in the back shown about 3/4 the way thorough the clip makes sense as the fusilage of the Raven's claw is concave and the engines would make it even more distinct, and the nose does seem to hook in the film reference.
Edited by Rodent MastermindWell, I was working on the assumption that it's a "named" ship of some kind, but they had hundreds of ships to play with after they made all the tiny vessels for the air traffic on Coruscant, so they might have used something that just happens to resemble the Crow/Claw.

Very very true. I really don't think it's the Crow though, it's wings seem to hang rather than being straight and the back fins seem to be totally missing. So it could be the Claw or just a random ship, but I'm pretty sure not the Crow.

You're right, if I had known of the existence of the Raven's Claw I wouldn't have brushed aside the differences as reflections and window light on the Moldy Crow and instead looked for photos of Raven's Claw as you did.
It can't be The Raven's Claw.
That ship didn't exist until after the destruction of The Death Star. Likewise, it's missing the massive engines. It looks more like an HWK, but I don't honestly think it's
either.
The scene from The Phantom Menace with the "hwk" can be found in this clip on youtube a little before the 6 minute mark. The quality is kinda bad so if you have the dvd or blu ray watch it on there. It does look kind like it but hard to say as it's mostly a silhouette.
If that is the case then the Superstar Destroyer is EU - it first showed up in the Star Was Comic book. ( really only one that came out before Jedi)
How is the super stardestroyer from the expanded universe? it made its first appearance in The Empire Stikes Back before appearing again in Return of the Jedi.

My point was though that if it appears in the movies then it even if the EU stuff didn't exist, the ship itself would be part of the Star Wars Universe.
On a separate point I just re-watched Star Wars E IV and I don't think the HWK 290 is in it anywhere. The ship that flys through the sky when look is selling his speeder doesn't look like the HWK to me. As for Episode I, I only own it on VHS, and I don't think I am willing to pay for it on DVD. I sorta hate that movie.

It was confirmed back in 2000 in Star Wars Insider #48 that it's not the Crow:
http://theforce.net/episode1/hidden/hidden_stuff_page_14.asp
It might be a HWK 290 and not be the Moldy Crow.
No, it was pretty clear they meant that the ship in question was totally original and not in any way related to the Moldy Crow (it had yet to have the HWK-290 moniker).
Besides, I just looked at the DVD and it seems to be a triangular shaped hull with small fins on the back and two fins on the front angled at 45* (the Crow's are nearly vertical):
Yep, there it is:)

Well it doesn't matter now. "EU" doesn't exist as per a recent announcement, stating all Star Wars work is now canon, and the levels have been removed.
So there's that.
Er, I believe going forward all new stuff is canon. I don't believe the comic I've just read where Chewie and Han crash. Han gets killed by Indians, Chewie becomes the Sasquatch and Indiana Jones finds Hans corpse is ever likely to be Canon.

What are you all going on about?
Whether something is canon or is EU shouldn't really matter. All that matters is that Star Wars is awesome and X-Wing is a cool game.
I for one loved the special edition Star Wars. The extended Battle for Hoth was what I liked the best.
Can't wait for Episodes VII, VIII and IX
I'm going on about an actual move and actual article but that's just me.
