HWK 290 not EU?

By Hrathen, in X-Wing

I made a recent realization. For months we have discussed the HWK as the first EU ship, since it comes from the Dark Force PC games and not from the movies. However the HWK does appear in the movies. I will have to go back and check, but I think it can be seen either flying over Mos Espa in Episode I or over Mos Eisley in Episode IV.

Either way it is a bit shot and you never hear it mentioned much less identified as a HWK 290, or the Moldy Crow for that matter.

But the TIE Interceptor is shown in Return of the Jedi but never discussed, the TIE bomber shows up in Empire but is never named. The B-Wing and the A-wing similarly just show with out any discussion of what they are.

Even the tern YT-1300, Lamda Shuttle, Firespray, or even Slave I are never actaully mentioned in the movies.

Sure I would agree that the HWK gets less screen time and less atention than any other ship appearing in the movies. But I think it is safe to say that if it is in the movies then it is not strickly a EU only ship.

A screen shot says 1000 words, if you can pull one up that would be ace.

I suspect that if it does appear, it may have been added in the special editions, too..

If it was not in the prequels then absolutely. My point was simply that the ship is in the movie.

You can of course make the argument that since that whole Han Solo Greedo thing was so terrible in the more recent editions that those movies themselves don't count as Star Wars Cannon. You could probably convince me of that if you tried.

I will see if I can find exactly where. I don't really have screen capture capabilities so you have to go and look yourselves.

After a quick google, I found no trace of the crow flying over Tatooine. However, I'd still like to see if someone CAN find it.

Per Wookieepedia:

"It has been speculated by fans that the Crow was added to Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope Special Edition ; being visible through an archway as Luke Skywalker sells his XP-34 landspeeder to Wioslea . It was also rumored that the Crow appeared in Coruscant's sky traffic in The Phantom Menace . However, both these facts are yet to be proven."

I haven't checked the scene yet, but wookiepedia says that it is an unconfirmed sighting of the Moldy Crow. I think that probably means that it is a HWK 290.

It's a HWK shaped blur.... It could as easily be Apollo 9, or Firefly.

Funny, the Imperial Shuttle pretty clearly does appear in Firefly. I think it's on Ariel when they land, in the background.

I can't find the HWK in Ep4 image anymore. I have seen it. I think it's pretty clear it's the HWK, but it's from the SE, which is years after the video games. It's not in the theatrical version.

Myself I tend to consider anything that showed up in the EU first as EU. Even if it did show up in one of the SE movies, it's still IMO EU.

That doesn't make it bad, myself I like EU stuff so I don't consider that to be a negitive.

I find this comment rude, ridiculous, and foolish.

As if there is an "easy" chance that you're going to find

the Apollo 9 or a Firefly in STAR WARS Episode 4.

10821689433_d35a9c942f_o.jpg It may not be definitive but it's obviously not ever going to be Apollo 9 or a Firefly class ship.

Edit after taunting:

It's easy to mock when you don't have to provide any evidence.

If you look closely at the photo you notice one simple thing:

it is evidence.

Next you will say a tennis shoe doesn't appear in an asteroid field.

I like EU over SE. Just sayin'.

What is this EU you chaps speak of, I am purely a Episdoe IV, V, VI guy, there were no Episdoes I,II, III......

(Edit) A quick google answered my own question, hmmmm interesting, I wonder how many EU ships we shall see then as it appears the main ones (fighters) are all covered.

EU = Extended Universe. Pretty much everything from the Comic books, novels, computer games, RPG's, ect...

It's all considered Canon, but not the same level of canon as the movies.

Next you will say a tennis shoe doesn't appear in an asteroid field.

Why would I switch from saying "something is in" to saying "something is out."

You don't have a clue what I would say next:

I'm sure that only you would think of such a "douchebag-thing" to say.

If that is the case then the Superstar Destroyer is EU - it first showed up in the Star Was Comic book. (the really only one that came out before Jedi)

There's a fair difference between a cammo like the HWK or Outrider, and a major part of the Imperial Fleet in RotJ.

That's why I used the word "tend" because it's not an absolute, just a rule of thumb.

If only the HWK were the reason the European Union was in financial difficulties....

That's caused by the secret Death Star they are building on the other side of the moon. I think they are planning to ship off all the Greeks to work on it, it will speed up the construction and cut Greece's unemployment figures overnight.

So yeah, HWK is awesome! I fully endorse spending all our money on building a spaceship to get the hell off this planet immediately!

Pffft. The moon IS the Death Star. It's being built from the inside out.

Wonder how many of the youngsters will get that reference.
