Lambda Shuttle and 3 TIE Bombers vs HWK-290 and 2 Y-Wings

By SableGryphon, in X-Wing Battle Reports

I chose to fly the Imperial Lambda shuttle (Omicron Group Pilot) with an engine upgrade and a rebel captive and three identical TIE Bombers (Gamma Squadron Pilots) with concussion missiles and seismic charges.

My friend took Roark Garnet in the Moldy Crow (HWK-290) with a recon specialist and a blaster turret, Dutch Vander in a Y-Wing with an ion turret and a Generic Gold Squadron pilot in a Y-Wing with advanced proton torpedos. I know he had other upgrades, but I'm not sure what the full list was.

I started off by moving a short distance with the Bombers while my shuttle hooked wide to my right while he raced ahead (as well as Y-Wings and a HWK can race), meaning that the first round no one was in range. The second round I moved moderately forward while he moved forward again and started to hook to my left, putting us into range. He concentrated fire on one of my bombers putting two hits and a crit (damaged sensor array) while I dropped all my missiles on the Gold Squad Y-Wing, damaging it but not destroying it. On the next turn my TIE bombers started to bank to the left to meet his hook while I brought that damaged Y-Wing into arc with my shuttle, destroying it. First kill of the game goes to the shuttle.

Then, as Dutch and Roark banked around, two of my TIE bombers dropped the seismic charges my friend had totally forgotten about before pulling koiogran turns. This proved devastating, as one bomb hit both his ships as well as my shuttle and one TIE Bomber and the second hit Dutch and that same TIE Bomber. The next turn, my shuttle moved to perfectly sit in the gap between the Moldy Crow and the Y-Wing, being a millimeter from each base. This brought the HWK perfectly into the gunsights of the Lambda shuttle, where it was destroyed. Second kill goes to the shuttle. Seeing that the TIE Bombers were all still alive, though a couple heavily damaged, and the shuttle baring down on him, Dutch fled the field. Both kills of the game were scored by the shuttle and Dutch would have about seven years of weird paperwork to explain why two ships critical to the alliance were destroyed by a light utility shuttle in a dog fight.

The concussion missiles I brought out with the bombers turned out to be mostly useless. They did a bit of damage to that first Y-Wing, but those 12 points could have been spent on better options. The real killer of the game was the main gun on the shuttle. It spent much fo the game at range 1 throwing four attack dice. The engine upgrade let me dogfight effectively with it.
