Monthly Draft at the EC

By Moonpaw, in Android: Netrunner The Card Game

Hey all, I just played my first Netrunner draft yesterday at Worlds, and had a blast. I heard several people talking about doing this regularly, so I'm throwing this out to see how many people would also be interested.

This would be at the FFG center (games center or event center, whatever, I will always call it the EC) and would most likely be on Monday with the open play Netrunner. Since Lukas usually does a tournament on the first Monday of every month I would like to run this on the 3rd or 4th Monday of every month. This month the 3rd Monday is immediately after Arkham Nights, so I'm going to tentatively plan on the 25th at 6 PM, but if enough people say that another day/time would work, I can change it (this month or sometime in the future).

This is totally unofficial, I do not work for FFG, and I don't have any limited edition anything for prizes, but I can say there will be no entry fee other than buying your own draft packs. For those who don't know, the Runner and Corp packs are about $10 each, and the Starter is about $5. The Starter set is the only one that is reusable, so each draft would be $20.

If there's enough people interested in prizes I could probably do something simple for a cheap entry fee, but that's off in the future. For now, freebie fun Draft tournament.

Also, if anyone who plays Netrunner regularly doesn't need some/all of their draft cards at the end of the night and is willing to donate, I'd like to start a collection of used cards for new people. That way, if someone does a draft for their first game and decides they like it, I could set them up with a few cards for a basic deck.

Feel free to post with any thoughts or questions on this. Any questions about the mechanics I can answer at the event or you guys can PM me.

I was hoping someone would start up a draft! I'm interested in playing, the 25th works for me, might also be able to bring along one other player.

I'd be interested and might also be able to bring a friend or two.

I have never played ANR, but might be interested in drafting. I play AGoT and SW intensely, and straight up refuse to get deep into another LCG; I just simply do not have the time required. I enjoy playing competitively, and two LCGs are all I have time for at that level right now. But, the ANR stuff looks cool, and so might be interested in quite casual play with others who are uber new to it also.

I saw the FFG packs at Worlds, but am confused about how it works? Is it possible to run it like so:

Each person brings along their starter pack. One person buys a Runner and a Corp draft pack. 3-4 people draft decks. People play for a few hours using those decks. Put all of the draft pack cards back in the draft pack and seal it away to be used at some future date. It seems as though people could draft out of the same draft packs multiple times. The end deck that you make would be different each time, due to different draft order, etc.

In drafts, do people typically all chip in and then keep the cards that they draft? Or, does one person buy the draft pack, and then collect the cards after?

Divinity, each player will need to buy their own Corp and Runner packs, and technically they can't be reused. The packs are specifically made so that each group of 10 cards is randomized as a single 'booster pack'. You will only take 1-3 cards from each of these boosters (depending on the number of players) and will have almost no way of returning them all to the same pack in the same groups of 10. So at the end of the draft, you just keep the cards you drafted. Also I think the minimum number for a draft is 4 technically, but you could probably get it to work with 3. Haven't done any drafts that small before.

Note: the starter packs, the $5 ones, are exactly the same every time and reusable. There is even a cardlist for them.

That makes sense. So, each person in the draft needs to buy one Corp and one Runner draft pack to contribute to the overall pool that is drafted from?

On second thought...if a friend and I wanted to draft, it would cost about 50 dollars. It might be better to just buy a core set and play casually at home.
