Reinforcements event cards die?

Do the reinforcements event cards go to the dead pile or discard pile when used for claim in a military challenge, or are killed by Valar?

There is some debate, and I am unable to determine this from the FAQ. I would really appreciate any logic and reference that demonstrates the answer.

When a card leaves play, it reverts to its printed type. When a reinforcements event leaves play, it is an event again. It goes to your discard pile.

Right answer, potentially confusing reasoning there. (Technically, the event card is still functioning as a character while moribund and continues to do so until it is physically removed from play; it wouldn't "revert to printed type" until the event was in the dead pile.)

The answer you're looking for is in the FAQ. Section 3.25: Card Type Changes to Character.

"If for any reason, a non-character card that is functioning as a character is killed, said card is placed in the discard pile instead. Effects that trigger from said card being killed may still apply."

So, a Reinforcement event card that is killed goes to the discard pile because the rules/FAQ says so. The mechanics of the thing is that there is an automatic replacement effect ("placed in the discard pile instead") applied to any card with a non-character printed card type that is acting as a character.

Thank you guys!
