Quick! Need Dark, Adult Star Wars Comic Help

By Sturn, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

About to take a short trip, wanted to download some Dark Horse comics before I go onto my Ipad. I'm not a comics fan at all, but going to give it a try.

I would prefer something targeted towards adults, not teenagers. Darker, more serious stuff the better. Preferred timeline would be perhaps from 100 years before the Clone Wars to Return of the Jedi, not further. But, timeline is secondary to adult, dark, and serious.

I hate resurrected good and bad guys. Boba Fett, the Emperor, Darth Maul, etc in my opinion only died once. Give me new original bad guys, don't try to reanimate ones previously cut in half or eaten and digested.

Did I just set too many limits or is there something out there?

Thanks in advance.

Star Wars Tales series is decent.

I would also strongly recommend the Legacy series, but that falls outside of your "not further then Return". Its actually a very good series following the distant relation of Luke Skywalker with all kinds of new villains however. :(

Barring that you'd probably have to rely on the Empire and Rebellion series. :)

Best one and has been for sometime is the Darktimes series.

I also recomnend the Legacy series. Its a bit out of your timeframe, but very good. The first arc is force user related, the second arc is more In tune to edge of the empire.

As 2 others have said. Legacy series. Shadai is right. It doesn't fall in your preferred timeline, but it's worth it. You will not be disappointed.

+1 for Legacy, it's the closest I can think of to the tone you're after, and one of the best IMHO. I didn't think I would like it because honestly, most SW comics really suck...just another galaxy-spanning threat of the week.

Knights of the Old. Republic was pretty good too, but not as dark as you're looking for.

Most of the good dark stuff does fall outside your timeframes. A lot of the Old Republic/Jedi Origins stuff is the darkest/most adult stuff out there.

I'll second the suggestion for Dark Times.

Thanks for all of the suggestions folks.

I think I've whittled it down to Star Wars: Dark Times or Star Wars: Republic.

I downloaded, "Republic #1" through a Dark Horse app. It begins with a story of Leia soon after Yavin in an X-Wing dueling TIE fighters and crashing on a planet where she off's a TIE pilot with a blaster. But, when I go to wiki and read the synopsis of Star Wars: Republic issues I can't find what the hell I actually read. It doesn't seem to sync up or I'm highly confused. A description of Republic #1 online doesn't coincide at all with what I just read. Different characters and different time period.

The supposed Republic issue I read wasn't all that great. Don't get me wrong, it seemed well done and had a dark tone with Luke and Leia discussing loved ones lost, but perhaps I really need to be reading about characters I'm not already bored with?

I'm now looking at Star Wars: Dark Times. It seems to delve beyond core characters (a big plus) and is in a time period I like.

Sorry, I don't want to start reading Legacy. Part of my inspiration is ideas and back story for an EotE campaign. Legacy might be fun to read, but will have no other benefit. It's outside of what I would call my personal canon for my Star Wars campaigns which will probably never be set in such a time period.

Yeah Sturn the character development is insane and the story is very surprising at times, you won't regret it. If anyone has not read this arc I highly recommend it! It's still my favorite series and I been reading it since the beginning.

Legacy is amazing but why put of the timeframe. Hell I love darth talon, bought the **** statue when it came out and when my wife saw the price she freaked lol.

Ok two issues into Dark Times and I'm loving it. Thank you. I've never been a comic fan before, but these have made me a fan. Original story, new original characters, and in the right era for me. Already have some ideas for adventures in my EotE campaign - chasing after a ship to rescue a cargo of slaves.

The only core character so far has been Darth Vader in snippets, but even it's enjoyable - just after he became Vader and he is in turmoil with flashbacks from events we saw in the movies. I especially liked him hearing about this ship of slaves the Imperials have captured and flashing back to him as a young Anakin dreaming of becoming a Jedi and coming back to free the slaves. I had always thought that was a missed opportunity in the prequels. His dream was of course meant to be a forced infused foretelling, but we never get to see his dream come true. Until perhaps in this comic.

Thanks again.

Most welcome! Glad you are enjoying it!!
