New Lieutenant Packs for Shadow of Nerekhall

By Cursain, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

These lieutenants look great! Verminous is probably my least favorite, but I dig his uniqueness. I'm excited to learn more about Tristayne and Rylan. And Mirklace is pretty terrifying. I assume Eliza and perhaps Belthir will make an appearance.

The look great and give a little bit of a boost to the mage area (There is never enough personally) :)

Now they could add the lieutenant into the non yet released supplement. Nice sculptures but i dont see the point to add more mechanics at this point (reversable token and power). Some lt are really powerful... Is the challenge balance of the mission endangered then ?

Yeah !

Maybe one day we will have expansion and lieutenants as the same time !

I think Verminous could have had a better name.

All of the Lieutenants spoiled seem to have great personalities, with exception of Verminous. Maybe its because his goals are secret right now, but he kind of reminds me of a weaker Bol'Goreth.

Love Mirklace and how the fluff is shaping up here.

I can certainly see Eliza Farrow wandering around in this expansion somewhere. She and Merick live in Nerekhall, if I'm not mistaken. I'm definitely not opposed to seeing Belthir either, though I'd be curious as to his motives.

I think it would be awesome if Belthir came back in some future expansion (SoN or later) as an ally. Potentially with the option to turn traitor like Serena/Raythen do in LoR. He seems like the sort of character who could go back and forth like that.

I'm excited for these ones, even with the first wave on the cusp of being released. In response to further up, I doubt FFG will ever put the LT minis right in the expansion box. They've already set the precedent with tokens in box, minis with Plot decks on the side. I don't see that ever changing, and I'm personally okay with that.

I know there'll be people saying they need to slow the releases down (or at least the announcements), but I think it'll settle down a bit by next year. At this point, they have to play catch-up with getting LT minis out for the base game plus three already released expansions. Once those are out of the way, I'm sure we'll return to our normal "one big box, one small box" per year, with just the addition of LT minis for those respective expansions coming out around the same time.

As for these LTs themselves, I'm actually cool with Verminous. His name is cheesy, sure, but I think a hulking rat-thing is just really cool. As a mostly Overlord player, I like my monsters, and the more monstrous my LTs are, the happier I am. Regular humans (ala Rylan Olliven) don't quite scratch the itch a dragon hybrid or giant troll do. Of these four, Mirklace is my favorite conceptually. I love the idea of heroes playing that fine line between bolstering themselves with his temptations, and losing control of the Overlord's amassed power (hopefully Mirklace has some other Plot cards that can be devastating with enough Threat).

Just my initial thoughts. Excited as always for new Descent bits to play with!

One thing I've noticed is that 3 of the new Agents (and assuming, their Lieutenant counterparts) have abilities that were mostly reserved for CK monsters. Tristayne Olliven has Ravage (which granted was also seen on the Master Volucrix Reaver). Verminous has Stealthy and Mirklace has both Aura and Sorcery.

Mirklace is so far my favorite just because of the raw power he brings along with the temptations his Plot cards give to the heroes.

All of them will be interesting to see in action. Shame you can only use one per campaign, you'd have to play over a dozen campaigns to use each one once after these are released. On the other hand, the OL definitely needed more options.

I LOVE this idea! It would be great to see him as a hero as well as a LT. Seems to fit his flavor allot!

I wonder if starting with Nerekehall expansions might release simultaneously with their lieutenant figures.

I was hoping the for the same! FFG would probably tell u$ it$ becu$e they are an optional add on, but I can't $eem to wonder if there i$ another rea$on....

They might not have those abilities in the Shadows of Nerekhall campaign. "Agent" Lieutenants have abilities that don't require expansions to use them. For instance, Agent Bol'Goreth does not have Rampage because that would require the Weaken condition and thus Trollfens to use. You don't need Trollfens to run Bol'Goreth's Plot deck though, because he is built around the core game rules, not the Trollfens add-on. Ariad probably won't be able to give out the Cursed condition like she does in LoR either.

So, I would take these spoilers as what the flavor of said lieutenants will be rather than what their final skills will be.

That's a good point, the abilities may not be final for the LT versions. Although, that said, the CK was just a box of monster cards (as far as OL was concerned) so those abilities had nothing else to draw on but the core set.

It's still possible the LT versions might lose some of these abilities in order to gain something else that does use the SoN expansion material, though. In fact it seems likely to me; LTs usually showcase their own expansion's new material.
