Yep. Officially announced on the FFG website. Very cool! Of course, as per tournament rules, only the most recently released Datapacks/Big Box expansions are allowed in real tournaments. If future cards crop up in draft they are not allowed to enter regular tournament play until officially released in a Data pack. Hence how it is currently illegal to simply print out 3x of a spoiled card in an FFG news post and use it in a tournament. The only exceptions to this rule had been at event discretion when allowing players to use either of the 2 runners up for vote.

It's a great and cheap way to re-discover the orginal Netrunner as that is basically the set up FFG have created for the draft. It also itnroduces new players to the game cheaply, hopefully encouraging them to buy Data packs/Core set as a result.

It looks really exciting, and I'm looking forward to being forced to use cards I might not normally use. Also this will be nice for the local game shop. I'm sure they would welcome another form of revenue from the LCG card playing group then the a once a month Data pack.

They're for people who like the draft format. Nothing more, nothing less. It's a huge money maker for MtG, so FFG want some of that money.

In so many words, it saves you the trouble of creating your own cube out of existing cards, with the attendant balancing issues, time, and inconvenience.

I think it does target new players, certainly, but it's got something to offer new players. You come in you sit down, you open the pack. You don't know what's in it, not exactly. You don't have any idea of what kind of deck you're going to build. Maybe you'll discover some unexpected card interactions, synergies you'd never consider.

And after a week? Maybe you'll never play that deck again, but you've picked up an extra Desperado, a 3rd SanSan City Grid, or even just another copy or two of Pop-up Window.

Don't forget that since it's FFG's in-house print on demand they can include anything they want in there as well. So even if you have all the cards how cool would it be if you crack open a pack and an Alt art melange is staring you in the face. Hell I'll be ecstatic even if I see a foil monolith. Just because it's an LCG (and FFG has assured us it will always stay an LCG) that does not mean opening up draft packs will have nothing to offer to the collector in all of us.

Also my comment about spending more comes from the view that as a LCG player I don't support my local game shop with purchases near as much as the Magic and other CCG gamers do.

So I think with the draft system it's great to have a option to support my local shop. Also playing from a random card pool will ( or should) help me be a better player. When you play with the same group, you just end up playing to beat the local meta and not expanded from that.

I think it's great that they are adding this without taking away from the greatness that is the constructed LCG format. Really I love it because for some of us we might like to do a draft as it is a fun a different challenge than constructed. But for those not interested, then no harm done to the format you want play. . Truly a win win in this case!

I'd like to try some drafting games, too. However, I'd rather see a drafting tool than purchase more copies of the same cards that I have.

Maybe this will be part of the integration of CardGameDB into FFG's website in the near future.

I guess I'm in the minority when it comes to these draft packs. I don't like the idea. I'm going to get the identities and the official draft rules that come in the starter set and that's about it. I can make the draft packs with the cards I have. Also, making a draft pack isn't as hard as some make it out to be. Part of the fun of a draft is the fact that the decks come out unbalanced.

There is absolutely no reason for you to get even the draft starter pack then. The only thing that's in the draft pack that is not in the core set is 2 id's. You can just use a proxy for that. The other cards in the draft starter pack are all standard cards from the core set.

Yeah I don't like that at all. I'm glad they can't be used in offiacl play, but it still doesn't sound good to me guys.

Does the Cyber War Cube include Spin Cycle?

I have seen unreleased AGOT Cards in the AGOT draft packs, drawn from the Kingsroad Cycle which is currently in progress, so they're seeing those cards 1-2 months early. They'd never be tournament legal, though, not before the actual pack is released.

BGG may have a complete set list and it contains only Core+Genesis, just like FFG said it would.
