Non-ranked talents repeated ?

By JP_JP, in Game Mechanics

What happens when a non-ranked talent appears in another specialization when you have already bought it ? like Stim Application from Doctor and Medic... or Familliar Suns... or Known Schematic...

I dont remember seeing a rule about this... and with the new specializations in AoR, this scenario can come up quite often.... so... Do you have to buy it once more and send that XP to waste because you already have it ???

Maybe it could go like this :

If the talent you have already bought cost more or the same has the new one, then you already have it... if it costs more, you have to pay the difference.

I'm not sure if it's good or bad :(

What do you guys think ?

Once you have it, you have it. Don't have to buy it again. Just cross it off the other specializations when you get to it.

For ranked, you have to buy them to get past them wherever they appear.

Yep. You can be strategic about what talent you buy in which tree to potentially get it for cheaper. No difference-payment required.

Or simply make use of the fact that if said talent shows up again in a specialization you buy later on, you can skip right over it, saving yourself at least some XP when working your way through the new spec.

I think it's an intentional mechanical point where there are price differences on different trees, and also the game doesn't assume you to have, let alone need, EotE to play AoR. If you're allowing characters to take careers from both, I wouldn't recommend paying a post-hoc tax if they want to pass over the same Talent on different trees. It works just as well inter-book as it does intra-book, where if you buy it once, it's considered bout on all Trees you ever access that have it.
