Newbies first 'Thematic' List - (Bob)sidan (Fett)scort

By HoundsTooth, in X-Wing

Now, to start with I should point out that I'm putting this list together for thematic reasons. At the moment I'm playing the game purely for fun against my six year old daughter but I'm slowly coming around to the idea of list building and may even trundle down to my local club for a 'grown-up' game or two in the future!

'Empire' is my favourite of the three original films and Boba Fett (like a lot of people) is my favourite character. The idea of this list is Obsidan Squadron providing an escort for Slave-1 as it leaves Bespin. I'd also like to run a Lambda/Vader based list based around the rest of the Squadron escorting Vader in the other direction. Being new to the game I need some advice as to how to kit out Boba Fett. The basic list I have is -

Boba Fett

Night Beast

Obsidan Sqaudron x 3

This should leave a few points left over for upgrades, should I perhaps drop Night Beast for another Obsidan pilot to free up more upgrades or forego the upgrades altogether and try to squeeze in five TIE's? At the moment I don't have the TIE upgrade so don't have access to Howlrunner or Winged Gundark, I was thinking of using these two in the Shuttle/Vader list... I believe that Howlrunner was one of the TIE's that chased the Falcon out of Bespin anyway so wouldn't be available as an escort for Fett.

Well, what do you think? Be gentle! ;) :P

Be careful of playing 6 yr olds... the Force is usually just starting to develop in them! ;)

I like thematic lists. The only thing I would have added was a "Rebel Captive" to represent Han as a "passenger" onboard.

Boba Fett with a Navigator crew is popularly known as "Fettigator" and allows for a lot of maneuver change options.

PS: Welcome to the forum!

Howelrunner was at Besbin, and she is the best TIE. She is really great flying close to a Firespray.

I've already discovered this to be true!

That's a cracking idea! The Navigator wouldn't work though as I think that Boba Fett only has one crew member slot. Any thoughts on 'Rebel Captive' and Heavy Laser Cannon? And how does HLC work exactly... I've read the card and I'm a little confused!

The HLC is a secondary weapon so it ignores range modifiers: Targets at range 3 therefore do not get an extra green dice to evade. The HLC effectively only can do hits and not crits but is useful none the less. Some abilities like Marksmanship can then kick in to convert a focus to a critical. Being a secondary weapon the HLC can only fire into the front arc of the Firespray, while the primary attack can be fired in both the front or auxillary fire arcs.

Yes Yes Yes, awesome addition to the thematic idea.

I'm no expert on the finer details of star wars ships and some other details ( that's what wookiepaedia is for) but I believe Fett upgraded his Firespray lasers, so a HLC sounds good thematically.

Also Jango had them but mines might be a nice touch also, or engine upgrade.

Not to confuse matters but due to the FAQ/ Errata any attack dice re rolled from a target lock or Krassis or Jonus ability when using a HLC may remain Crits and do not have to be reduced to normal hits.

Thanks swampthing, it was the first thing that sprung to mind given the setting!

I guess the list also needs the "Slave-1" title card (freebie) and as this grants a proton torpedo slot that is another option.

Heavy Laser Cannons do Range 1 damage at any Range. Even if they're 7 points, and even if they're critless without some finangling, they're absolutely incredible.

Rebel Captive is great in this list. On a Firespray-31, I'd typically put it behind Recon Specialist, Gunner, and Navigator in my list of what to use, but it's still on the list!

...Unfortunately, if you add a Rebel Captive, you'd need to lose 3 points somewhere else. Boba + HLC + Night Beast + Obsid + Obsid + Obsid = 100 points already.

Now, keeping this going, you could have a scenario with Lando Calrissian driving the Millinnium Falcon with Chewbacca as a copilot going to rescue Luke, as a Shuttle with Darth Vader as a crew member goes to his Star Destroyer...

You read my mind Dracon. I'm just trying to work out how to 'shoe-horn' in two X-Wings in thematically speaking! :D

No need. Just make it a 50 point game! The described Lando-Falcon-Chewie is 49 points, with your choice of Adrenaline Rush, Determination, or Veteran's Instinct added to make it 50.

Minimum cost for a Shuttle with a Vader co-pilot is 24, so you'd only get 2 or 3 imperial ships total. Might go with Captain Yorr with a single escort and a few upgrades...
