New to game, what to buy first

By ZSpark, in X-Wing

Hey, my group is interested in playing this game and we were wondering what to buy first. There are 4 of us and until we get a good amount of expansions we will probably play 2v2 like they did on tabletop YouTube show. One players was luke x-wing, one was the falcon, slave 1, and the last player controlled 2 tie fighters. Anyways, if we are going to play like that, what expansions would you recommend first for a fun, close to even match.

Sorry for bad typing. I'm on phone lol

Here's what I think most people would agree with.

2x Core set, YT-1200 (Falcon) and Firespray-31 (Slave 1)

That will cost you around $90-110 if you shop around a bit. With that you can put together 2 100 point lists. For your group, give 1 person the large ship, Falcon/Slave 1, the other the 2 X's or 4 Tie Fighters.

After that you'll want to pick up 1 each of the expansions. There's pilot and upgrade cards in the X-Wing and Tie fighter packs you don't get in the core set.

Then pick up expansions as you see fit.

Here's what is the common max number of ships you might see in lists. Not saying you need this many of these ships, a lot of people are happy with 1-2 of each. Just saying this is the most you should consider buying. FWIW this is also the list of what I own.

4 X-Wings

4 A-Wings

4 Y-Wings

4 B-Wings

1 HWK-290

8 Tie Fighters

4 Tie Interceptors*

4 Tie Bombers

1 Tie Advanced

The large ships are a bit more difficult. Some people really like 2 or even 3 Firesprays, or 2 Falcons. But those are expensive so... The Lambada Shuttle is nice but is tough to fit into a list, and for $20-30 I'd put that off until you have everything else you want.

* In Dec they are releasing the Imperial Aces pack with 2 repainted Tie Interceptors, so I'd say don't buy more then 2 expansion packs and then pick up the Imp Ace if you want more interceptors.

I just started as well and got:

2 core set

1 Falcon

1 Slave 1

1 B-wing

1 A-wing

1 Tie Interceptor

I managed to do a bunch of different squads, all fun to play.

i just started a couple months ago and money for us is tight ( as it is for a lot of folks ) but I have already managed to get ....

2 core sets

1 YT-1300

1 Firesprey

1 A-wing

1 B-wing

1 Tie Advanced

1 Tie Interceptor

1 extra Tie fighter

1 extra X-wing

1 Y-wing

thus far when we have played the games have been pretty balanced. Not sure if thats because one of us sucks and the other is better tho, lol. Still the stuff I have has given us some flexibility and has provided a lot of fun. I would highly suggest your group gives the game a shot.....you won't regret it!

Well I got back into game so I consider myself new still. But what I have is:

2 core sets

3 tie bombers

3 b-wings

2 a-wings

2 tie interceptors

1 y-wing

1 yt-1300

1 firespray

1 lambda shuttle

I play both sides so that is why I get what I get good luck

2 core sets is important, but one of the great things about this game is that you can go with pretty much anything else for your 3rd and 4th purchase, if you proxy in Upgrade cards and pilots. Rebels, who fly fewer ships in a squad, are easier to field on the cheap, as a tie at its MOST expensive (Howlrunner + Engine Upgrade + Opportunist, which is a horrible build) is only 26 points.

What to buy first? A money-growing-tree... this game is soooo **** addictive you'll need heaps of cash to buy all those nice and shiny new mini's.

Thanks to this thread I went out and bought a bundle of stuff. The only things I couldn't get are expansion packs for the X-Wing, Y-Wing, and TIE fighters. Some are available on Amazon for almost $50, seems a bit ridiculous since I got the others for < $15. Anybody know if these going to be re-released soon?

I'm looking at the Canadian Amazon…but yeah, weirdly if I look in the games section, the cheapest is just under $50. But if I do a search there are more in the "Sports" section, it's a different vendor and a lot more reasonable. Sports? LOL.
