Crazy-Awesome challenge for Fleet Builders

By DraconPyrothayan, in X-Wing

My local League has put together an RPG-ish thing with house-rules, which blows the world of fleet-building wide open.

My question is, according to the rules I'm posting, what fleet would you attempt to attain?

==============================================================

1] Your fleet consists of 3 ships. Tie Fighters count as 1/2 a ship each, and YT-1300s and Firespray-31s count as 2.

2] Your pilots gain points as you play.

3] You gain Pilot Levels by spending 1 more point than your current level (2 points to get to level 2 from level 1, 5 points to get from level 4 to level 5, et c).

4] You may spend points to purchase Upgrades when you are at least the pilot level of your ship that may purchase that upgrade. (X-Wings can't get an Astromech until level 2, A-Wings can pick up Elite Pilot Talents at 3, and so on). Faction-specific Upgrades (e.g. Nien Numb, Rebel Captive, et c.) may be equipped by either Faction. You may not purchase Unique Upgrades (e.g. R2-D2, Squad Leader, et c.) that is already in your fleet.

5] You may purchase ANY Named Pilot's ability, in any ship, once you've attained the level of that pilot by paying that pilot's level. You may not claim a Named Pilot Ability that is already in your fleet. (E.G. If you have a Level 4 A-Wing, you may pay 4 additional points to give it Captain Yorr's ability.)

6] You may purchase multiple Upgrades for a single slot, and gain 2 Stress Tokens to replace a discarded Upgrade. Discarded Upgrades are regained after the instance/game/scenario. You may not purchase multiple Named Pilot Abilities or Elite Pilot Talents on the same ship.

Point limits?

Point limits?

No upper limit, its just that you have to earn the points as you play.

The real point of this post is: What would you do with 3 ships, in a world where you can put Biggs Darklighter in a Tie Advanced, or Captain Yorr in an A-Wing, or Garven Dreis in the Moldy Crow with a Blaster Turret? And so on and so forth.

A YT and a B. With only two ships, you'll be able to upgrade them faster. With all the hull and shields, you should survive swarmy fleets.

What would be your upgrade chain?

Wouldn't it make the most sense to go with 6 TIE Fighters?

What pilots and upgrades would you grow to?

How about...

Manto Fel - X-Wing - Leader - Darth Vader's Ability +Marksman +R2-D2

Wingman - X-Wing - Support - Howlrunner's Ability

Wingman - TIE Advanced - Cover - Bigg's Ability +Stealth Device +Elusive

...that'd be sweet....A-Wing would work too if I can't have the TIE Advanced, but I like the extra hull!

I'd go with:

A Wing- Ibtisam's ability, Push the Limit

X Wing- Vader's ability, R2-F2, Marksman

Y Wing- Ion cannon turret+some other stuff that's not too important.

B Wing- Mauler Mithel's ability, advanced sensors, ion cannon or something

I like all four of these. I'd probably drop the y wing, or maybe the a wing. Hard to decide.

YT-1300 - Darth Vader - Marksmanship, Gunner, Falcon Title, Engine Upgrade, Chewbacca, Assault Missiles.

A-Wing - Biggs - Stealth Device, Push the Limit, Assault Missiles.

B-Wing, Mithel's ability and Autoblasters, now that'll pack one hell of a punch.

Not enough information. How do you gain points? How quickly?

Just theory-crafting what would be possible, if I understood what you said completely

X-Wing w/Cpt Jonus's ability with R2-D2 and Shield upgrade and Elusiveness (or B maybe?)

B-Wing w/Ten Numb's ability, HLC, Advanced Sensors, Advanced Torps, Marksmanship, Shield upgrade

B-Wing w/Wedge's ability, HLC, Advanced Sensors, Advanced Torps, Marksmanship, Shield upgrade

This would be nasty as hell. Jan Ors is another possibility for really rediculous one on another ship.

I like this idea in general, but you obviously want to cur it off before it gets to this point. However, this could be annoying the whole way.

Obvs you'd spend for skill first, then the Adv Sensors, then prolly just push to Jonus and the HLCs, then everything else. Likely the extra shields and torps last.

Actually, the skill + Jonus + HLCs is only 44 pts, so could pretty easily reach that quick. given that half of that is Pilot skill whieh is where a vast majority of points are likely to go for everyone anyway. Once it gets to this point it only gets more and more silly..

In retrospect, I'd prolly go 3xBs, but the idea remains the same.
