Your Best Bombing Run?

By Beothuk, in X-Wing

Heya. So I played a swarm vrs swarm matchup with the following on the board:

Imperials:

3x BSP+AR 2xGamma+Proton Bombs

vrs

Rebels:

2x Rookie X 2x Prototype A 1x Gold Y

Round 2 of the match saw the X-wings and BSPs chip away at each other, with the A-wings focusing on one bomber. Round 3's inevitable dogpile saw me drop both Proton Bombs. The heavily damaged Gamma didnt get out, both A-wings suffered 2-damage crits and the xwings incinerated. One bombing run, and 5 ships wiped off the board. Anyone else have an epic bombing run experience like this? I can only imagine what a list packing Gammas+Prot Bombs could do played correctly versus a TIE swarm.

A little heavy on the short-hand, aintcha?

For a translation for the rest of us, he appears to be running 3 Black Squadrons (Tie Fighter), with Adrenaline Rush, and 2 Gamma Squadron (Bombers) with Proton Bombs.

Personally, I think running only 5 ships is a bit small-scale if you're gonna have Tie Fighters in the mix.

I have two fleets to offer you as alternate suggestions.

========================================================================

Fleet 1

Howlrunner (Tie)

+ Stealth Device

+ Adrenaline Rush

[22]

2x Scimitar Squadron Pilots (Bomber)

+ Proton Bomb

[21 Each]

3x Academy Pilots (Tie)

[12 Each]

100 points total

Fleet 2

Howlrunner (Tie)

+ Stealth Device

+ Adrenaline Rush

[22]

3x Scimitar Squadron Pilots (Bomber)

+ Seismic Charges

[18 Each]

2x Academy Pilots (Tie)

[12 Each}

100 points total

Yes, the bombers have a lower pilot skill, but I've found that I can generally predict my opponents' maneuvers fairly well when they're up against that many ships. Y

es, the Bombers have Target Lock, but giving everyone else in my fleet the better half of a Target Lock is WORTH the points put in Howlrunner, especially when I have so many other ships at a low pilot skill.

Incidentally, I always give her the most defensible actions possible (Focus for 4+ dice, Evade for 3 or fewer, and barrel-roll to get behind Asteroids, into a farther range, or out of firing arcs). The Adrenaline Rush is there to prevent her from losing her action when she needs to take a Koiogran.

*Reads, strokes chin, ponders....

Hrm.

*list stolen...* :D

Looks like both will be fun to try!

Yep.

I expect to see one of these lists or similar at worlds.

Really? Wow, thanks for the complement!

Was more so looking for epic bombing anecdotes rather than list advice, but thanks.

Sorry mate. List advice is kind of my thing, lol.

I did use a single Proton Bomb to get a Munitions Failure onto both a HWK and a B-Wing, the former being stuck with its useless 1 attack die and the latter being forced to drop its Heavy Laser Cannon, once. And yes, I was working with the original 33 card damage deck, so it was the only 2 Munition Failure crits available. Considering the bomber moved to a location that forced the third ship (also a B-Wing with HLC) into a collision...on an Asteroid, does this qualify as an epic bombing run?
