Help picking squad for weekend tournament, plz

Hi, ive got a tourney on sat and haven't had time to test these ideas but have flown a few different bomber squads since release.

All comments most welcome obviously

your plan here is to chain the swarm effects from howlrunner through each tie and then onto a bomber giving u 8,8,8,8,2,2 PS when firing and plenty of rerolls if u can keep a tight formation. The other two bombers with PS2 are your blockers and should get off some close range shots with them, possibly with target lock for rerolls.

its very reliant on howlrunner surviving though but it looks like a fun squad.

I have looked at a swarm with a couple of bombers/ naked or seismics and like the idea, i may try it in the future.

I agree about Jonus but just really like having SqL on a higher pilot so that i am more likely to be able to target lock a primer target.

The only one of these squads I've flown is squad 1 and as planned I used squad leader turn two with howl far enough away to not worry about losing her action and again turn three as i coyld see she would not be much target again.

This was the plan i had thought of, and assumed would probably not use squad leader for rest of the game so she could evade.

Wasn't a true test with lucky dice etc but easy victory.

I like the look of the Jonus and turr squaf in principle but my brain just keeps telling me that turr is out of place.

Feel he won't survive on own early game and seems a bit like someone driving a ferrarri amongst a bunch of tractors for first few turns.

ur plan with this squad is to send Turr along the edge to get in behind their main force. they will either be concerned enough to split their main force or target ur scimitars, hoping to deny u the chance to get away all ur missiles. if Turrs not to ur linking u could go with two academy ties or even a cheap tie advanced with 4pt missiles.

I see the strategy and like it, not sure why i didnt consider them splitting their forces.

I know have even more choices, and my life gets harder.

Try Howlrunner, Mauler Mithel, Backstabber, and 3 naked Scimitar Pilots. It's 99 points for initiative. has a swarm feeling to it, gives you 6 attacks total, 5 of them get to reroll one die, and two of them can get up to 4 dice in the right circumstances. You also have 27 hull points, which is more than even an 8-TIE swarm would get you.

I thankk you all, but want to try and stay away from a true swarm for tomorrow at least. Think i will try this at some point though.

I cant help my competitive nature and do want to win but at the end of the day i'm going to the tourney for the fun of it.

Also I'be pretty much avoided missiles wave 1 & 2, got an urge to use them now.

100 points total. Bombs are, in my opinion, the Bomber's greatest asset. The missiles and torpedoes are just gravy to me. The fact that Proton Bombs slip their crit underneath shields is simply amazing, though the other two bombs each have their own potential.

With 3 bombers (I only have the 2), you might replace an Academy Tie [12] and the Proton Bombs [10 total] for a 3rd bomber, and give all three of them a Seismic Charge, which keeps you at 100 points.

Seismic Charges are a cheap, non-action, non-attack, guaranteed point of damage if you can get them off on one ship. The fact that you can potentially do it to their entire fleet makes it huge.

really interesting build Dracon, u have me thinking about those proton bombs...

its sort of a hybrid of my previous list but uses your bomber base. Its got one less ship but with the addition of mauler its got a backup plan if howlrunner gets toasted early. it is missing the blockers ur build has tho :(

I do love the proton bomb but have gone for the missile option for two reasons, make the third i kust wanted to.

1) I find it still a bit random, quite often the actual card does little against opponent. Bad luck mostly

2) if I'm ioned I can't drop it.

I lied 4) the low Ps skill of bombers in a swarm

Having said that you should try this squad tho it is fun, you may like it.

Got to get my beauty sleep for tomorrow, up early to drive to tourney and my brain is too full of ideas.

I have ended up choosing the only squad I have flown ever and only once with a slight change, uping one of the scimitars to a gamma by dropping a seismic.

Howl + SqL

Black + DTF

Scimitar + APT

Gamma + Concussion

Scimitar + Assault

hopefully the Gamma will get his own lock first combat and I may chance a raw shot not sure.

Assault will get the SqL action and APT in the second.

By the time I get there I may have swapped the Gamma from concussion to APT who knows.
