That's really cool and a hearty congratulation to Mr Little and everyone else behind this gem of a game. Everyone in my group finds that Edge really hits the sweetspot ruleswise.

What's more surprising is that Fate is number five. I wonder if they account for kickstarters or just actual book sales?

2012 they released a new version of their RPG. This summer saw an expansion book that covered the "civilized" kingdoms of Immoren. Some stores are having a hard time keeping copies of either the Core book or the expansion in stock, they sell so well.

So I've played two RPG's in my life and I happened to play number 1 and number 2. Interesting! But, I have to say, I think number 2 is a better game for me. I thought Pathfinder was ok until I played EOTE and learned just how much fun an RPG can be!

I guess name recognition goes a long way.

I had a lot of fun with 4e, but there's no question that there were some missteps made. I hope the next edition fares better, but my group is 14 sessions into our EotE game and loving it. I see that continuing on for awhile.

I'm actually not surprised to see Iron Kingdoms on there. Even though I do not care for it myself. But considering how popular Warmachine has become recently, again I am not shocked that Iron Kingdoms made the list.

Just to sum up, the list goes:

1: Pathfinder

2: Edge of the Empire

3: D&D

4: Iron Kingdoms

5: Fate Core

Gotta say, so far I'm loving what FFG is doing with the license.

But I do find it ironic that D&D is losing out to Star Wars (license WotC dropped because it didn't turn as easy a profit) and Pathfinder (Old version of D&D WotC thought only a few die hards would continue to play).

WotC isn't about to go out of business or anything, but I'm sure once all is said and done the 4e tale will make for a nice case study about misjudging customer expectations and attempting to leverage technology that's still in a state of maturation and not well understood by your company's leadership.

The fact that many people are waiting on the next version of D&D for the most part, it speaks rather well to the brand that it is still showing in the top five (if you buy into these rankings). Its not terribly surprising though.

Seeing as how WotC hasn't really put out anything new for several months, I'm kinda surprised they ranked as high as they did.

Then again, they did reprints of the 1st edition core rulebooks, so maybe the nostalgia factor is what carried them through the year.
