Warhammer 40k version

By Silverhelm, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Since FFG likes to dabble with Gamesworkshop stuff I thought of an idea to make a 40k version of Descent. Those who know this universe will quickly see the infinite possibilities that this game can be!

Imagine Necron's for monsters, Chaos Space Marines? List goes on. Easy expansions (endless)! With two versions of descent they would really make a good game from the start. Expansions could be world based, lol Space Hulk expansion! Would be awesome. Box art would be so cool.

I've played GW since 1989 when I was 14 years old. Please don't do this FFG. The 40K universe is stagnant, and the company has become a blood sucking corporation. I no longer purchase models from them.

Their games are severely unbalanced and models over priced aka http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?prodId=prod2250008a

Not sure... I side with Cursain. I like descent as it is due to the fact that I only need to shell out so much a year vs. Magic: The Gathering or Warhammer. As much as I want to see Descent become an eternal format, I don't want it to become a bleed either. I will quite this came faster then I started if that happens.

Lol do you own every FFG game? Why would you need this if it doesn't appeal to you? Simply don't buy it if it was made. This would probably appeal to a Warhammer crowd perhaps more but would also appeal to Descent/Warhammer crowd even more. That's still an absurd amount of people if advertising was done right.

No I don't own all of their games. Matter of fact all I currently own is Descent (While my friend has Betrayal and all of Arkham and a few subsequent games). That is already a bleed for an artist trying to pay for housing and a wedding ^.^;; I am poor. I love the game. I would want to support it.

The reasoning behind me not wanting them to go this route is that it would divide their attention with Descent. They are doing a good job with this. They are producing a quality product that is in demand. When one divides attention of one good thing into two thing, then often time quality is decreed. I know that from my own experience as an artist.

Also, they have a rather unique game. A stroke of genius, if you will. They took two popular game types (board game and story related table top gaming) and married them to make something new all together. Why, then, would they make something that isn't as unique that would require allot of their resources AND have to compete with an already established fan base? It would be very much akin to any adult card game trying to compete with Magic: The Gathering. While it might live on hype for a while, the adrenaline will deplete and the product and game will die prematurely.

I am not saying your idea isn't good. I can see where that would be something people might want, but is there a calling for it? Would the group of people interested be large enough to legitimatize the need and is that group going to be large enough to rival the already existing types of this game?

And I am poor ^.^;;

I don't think that an adaptation of Descent to Warhammer 40k would really be a good thing, as FFG already produces games much more near to its theme.

Gears of War fits the Warhammer 40k universe much better - and is a nice coop dungeon crawling game.

Space Marine Death Angel is even set in the 40k environement - albeit uses cards.

Even though I like Descent a lot, I am getting anxious about the pace of expansions' production.

As it is not the only game I play, I already cannot follow the rythm (base game and four expansions in less than two years, not counting the lieutenant add-ons).

This would be a good way to get the Warhammer community into the game. This would generate the revenue to keep producing great stuff for both. Warhammer players would also see that there is a wizard and warrior version of the game (Descent) as well and may decide in getting it as well. Win win really...

This is part of the elitist mentality I got tired of with Games Workshop players. I'm not going to generalize for the entire fan base because in life there are hardly ever "Nevers"/"Always" circumstances, but many of them are so fixated on Games Workshop's universe and lore that they feel anything outside of it isn't worth their time or energy or is poorer quality.

You want to know what's poor quality? 6th Edition Warhammer 40K rules.

I agree with Kunzite. The more game systems FFG creates, the poorer quality we'll get in their current games.

Plus, buying into Descent, from a online vendor such as www.miniaturemarket.com will cost around $200 with all Lieutenant packs to-be released in Nov.

If I wanted to get into Warhammer Fantasy/2000 pts of Dark Elves, I'd have to spend around $700-1000 dollars for an army I could only play one way. At least with that $200 dollar investment in Descent I can entertain four other people instead of just myself.

Did Relic ruin selling or producing Talisman products?

Gears of War completely different universe and that wouldn't do well in the 40k universe (and I don't like Gears of War at all). They converted Talisman into 40k universe with Relic and in my opinion is a superior game then Talisman. In my opinion Descent version with 40k theme would be epic!

Sad thing is selling an empty box with Descent and Warhammer 40k on it would almost sell...

As long it is NOT Descent, but another game go for it!

I am sure FFG have an idea of how successful it would be if they compare to Relic for the Talisman crowd.

For me personally it's a no

Considering the Descent game engine came out of DooM: the board game after they lost the third party license to continue making that game, I'm not sure how eager anyone at FFG would be to put this engine on another third party title. They made Descent to salvage the game engine in an IP they could control themselves.

The entire point is moot anyway, since FFG's agreement with GW has a non-compete clause that prevents them from making any games whose components might be transferrable to 40k (or any other GW game.)

This is why Relic has little busts of each character instead of proper figures.
