Verification of identity?

By bladerunner_35, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

While preparing to run Beyond the Rim I read an off-hand remark that the PCs identities are "verified" before meeting Reom (page 15, last paragraph).

Checking wookiepedia I find a number of entries on passports and identity cards but I still find it hard to get any real practical advice on how to make it work in Edge.

Are there any lore masters willing to point me in the right direction?

Hey, I just ran the first part of this adventure, and I just told my players that they had identi-chips/cards that everyone has and we moved on. Didn't want to get hung up on it.

If one of the characters (or all) owe obligation to Reom, he could have descriptions/pictures of them that the droid could use to verify they were the correct people.

You could use a "password" for identification.

Reom could be watching on a camera, and speak over the intercom, "It's them, send them in."

All citizens of the Galactic Empire are supposed to carry some identification, so they could have the equivalent of a driver's license from their home planet or even be registered in an Imperial Registry. It really is wide open.

Right, that's cool and thank you for the advice but I want to dig a little deeper than that. I think it would help with the versimilitude not of least reinforcing the imagery of the Empire's long reach and enormous bureacracy.

Hopefully it will also create interesting roleplay and reinforce the idea that the players not only need big guns to succeed, but unsavory contacts and a firm grasp of the Imperial machine.

So I am really looking for "this is how it works as found in book x" type answers.

I hear ya, that is a cool angle to work. Sorry I don't have anything more definite.

The sources at the end of this article might be a good place to start...

BoSS keeps record of all licensed Ship Captains and that includes ID cards and datawork the Capt. is supposed to carry with them. I'm betting that would be hard to forge and BoSS would have a basic verification network hosted through larger companies, commerce unions, merchant guilds and such to allow merchants to do a quick check of a Captain's creds before handing over millions in cargo to them.

Likewise Imperial Law enforcement as well as sector and planetary have a licensing process for "legit" bounty hunters. Not only is the Imperial Peacekeeping Certificate supposed to be needed to collect full bounties on most worlds, it's also a handy thing to have as it acts as a weapons permit on a lot of worlds, allowing the bearer to carry and/or purchase weapons and equipment that a planet's law enforcement would normally restrict.

Glad this thread came up. It is possible that I may need to fake somebodies death and have been wondering what I would need to do to do it.

DNA? Facial recognition software? Medical records? Finger prints?

Fingerprints would be nearly useless in a galaxy filled with innumerable species, and multiple digit types. DNA would be a more likely and more effective means, but might not be useful for say a species that is crystalline, or even possibly Silcon based.

As for "forging" a BoSS signature, it is apparently easier than the Bureau cares to admit. The Falcon's transceiver apparently regularly broadcasts falls signatures, and from the Haynes manual, this is not all that unusual to have.

Very interesting thread, at least for those like me, that are rather unexperienced with the SW universe.

I had in mind (have I read it somewhere?) that hacking the ship's transceiver it is a very difficult task, a side that it is heavily penalised.
