Running issue...

By jjstev3, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

So i'm curious if there is a difference in how the 2 extra speed you receive from the Swift skill affects your run speed vs. the 2 extra movement points from Wings of Regiroth (WoD gold treasure)

My hero has 5 base speed, so with the Swift skill he moves 7 and on the run, he gets 14 MP's

Is it the same with the wings if he had that instead of swift? or does he get 10 for running + 2 for the wings totaling 12MP's

and with the Ring of Quickness, I'm guessing that would just be the same as the wings and would stack depending on which approach is within the rules.

If he had all three cards, he'd either get 20 for running, if you can double the movement from the items, or 17 if the item's MP's are not doubled on the run.

Thanks

I don't know about the Swift skill, as I don't have it handy, but I know the treasures you mention talk about giving you extra movement points , not extra speed . It's an important distinction. With a run action, you get (your speed x 2) movement points to spend. The ring of quickness adds one to that total (or adds one to your total movement points provided by other actions, e.g. on a battle action, it would give you a single movement point to work with)

That being said, unless stated otherwise, abilities in the game stack. Therefore Elven Boots + Ring of Quickness = 3 MP on a battle action, or 13 MP for a speed 5 character who runs.

Hope this clarifies things!

Swift increases your speed if I remember right, so when you run it gets doubled. So like 4 speed with Swift is now 5, you get 10 MPs when running instead of 8.

Swift definitely increases speed, applied after armor reductions. So...even if you put that dragon scale armor (reduces speed to 3) on a character with swift, he has a speed of 5. If there is no armor reducing base speed, just add 2 to it. Run actions double speed so swift allows that extra speed to be doubled when running. Swift on Okaluk and rakash is just sick, since it means he runs at 16.

The ring, the boots, and the wings all give movement points, regardless of action. While it doesn't double when you run, it stays when you do something else. Someone with speed 5 advances with 7 mp, someone battling or readying with an attack will still keep any movement from the ring/boots/wings. Throw a robe on runemaster thorn for the extra other slots, give him all 3, buy him swift (if we're talking rtl) and he can fly over everything with 19 movement (5 of which can be a long teleport) before even talking about fatigue...just sick.

No, sick is Brother Glyr with the elven boots... 4 move points on a battle action! YEE HAW!
