I always enjoyed WEG Movie sourcebooks and to have an idea of how they break down major players. I find it intriguing. Of course their is always useful source materials their in contained. Major planets, equipment, ships etc. FFG hasn't rushed out any of their products and it shows in their fully colour glossiness:p But somewhere down the line, what do you think? Of course my field of interest is Episodes IV - VI primarily.
Edited by spladDo you think FFG will release Movie sourcebooks?
Ah, WEG nostalgia. This one:

was one of my favourite rpg reads ever. Such wonderful detail. And the Special Edition version:

was very useful in its own right, what with all the ships and playable species stats. Great stuff!
I've heard lots of people here say that they wouldn't like such a thing because people would start complaining about how everyone's stats are 'wrong', but I'd like it. Not only for the curiosity factor, but also for NPCs. If I 'need somebody like Dengar', I could just grab Dengar and name him something else. ![]()

Agree with both, would love to see a nice little block of movie relevant material to mine for adventure, gear, and character ideas, but it will drive me a little nuts when people start complaining that the Slave I doesn't follow starship modification rules exactly, or how Vader should have a totally new special rule they made up because the one that's already there doesn't account for his like of banana bread...
No, I don't want cheesy cameos in my game.
So far, FFG seem to have avoided that, and I'm grateful for it.
There are lots of great SW books covering the movies already, we don't need FFG ones.
All the iconic ships and craft and gear will be covered anyway. If you need NPC stats you can make them up as you like. We really don't need online arguments on how to stat Vader.Or Jar-Jar ![]()
And I J Thompson, if you want stats for someone like Dengar you could always use the 'Master Hunter' on page 400 and tweak it to your tastes...
Edited by MaeloraEotE is designed so that your characters are simple bit players in the Star Wars Universe, stars in their own tale separate from the movies themselves. You can house rule the OT all you want, but the intent of this system isn't to retell the movies/stat the main characters and really, that's what I love about this game. No need to worry about Jedi (yet!) or movie scenarios, it's just about having fun in the Star Wars Universe.
So yeah, I really doubt FFG would waste time on a OT source book when there are so many other books to release first. Maybe once all 18 character books are released along with a bunch of original adventures/location guides they can think about doing something like that.
Saying all that, of course it would be a nice touch for F&D, when discussing Jedi training to give examples on Luke's journey, go into detail about the narrative of his training across all three films and how that translates back to N/PCs.
I don't think anyone's saying, "would you like to see this book next? At the expense of everything else???" ![]()
Rather, I think it's more like, "would you like to have such a book?".
I would. ![]()

I do not seeing it as cheesy cameos. I had all the WEG sourcebooks and never once in all my years of playing it did I once use them. But hell I used the source material, the background and the equipment and its nice to see a yard stick to measure up to. But to see how the FFG designers view at what proficiency these heroes/villains is in a way seeing if the structure works after all this is what this frame work you base your characters on.

'These Player Characters are cut from the same cloth as other memorable characters found in the Star Wars Universe -tough, savvy, resourceful and powerful people who are destined to make an impact on the galaxy.'
This is a direct quote from EotE core rule book. Which is a direct contradiction to what you said. The intention is that Star Wars is larger than life, the exploits of these players are amazing, wild and often dangerous adventurers. Worth of song and defiantly retold around the cantinas in the galaxy. If I wanted a seedy romp around I'd play Shadowrun ![]()

I loved those books, even the special edition one as I adamantly stand by the premise that Han shot first!
Now there is wookiepedia, so beside stats, there's no real need like back there, when we were so young, before the internet.
Kudos to WEG which litterally created the official background of so many nameless characters, droids and vehicles in star wars.

I actually like the movie characters.
But a film or book needs good, strong characters for the audience to emphasise with.
In a game, those characters need to be the PCs. Simples.
So, I killed off the main movie characters in the goriest ways imaginable.
Now the PCs are the heroes. They can't rely on anyone else saving the day for them.
Either they blow up the Death Star, or nobody does. Either they save the Hot Princess, or nobody does.
Makes for a much better game than cheesy Jar-Jar cameos or missions where you have to take Luke's speeder to the repair shop.

Yeah, absolutely.
When Zahn was writing the Thrawn Trilogy, and wanted more background info than Lucas could give him, I think they sent him a load of WEG d6 books?

That is true yes, it was the richest source of Star Wars lore out their at the time.

lol sarcasm will get you everywhere.

I don't know if it's true, but I've heard that story as well. And it would certainly make sense, the WEG sourcebooks were a treasure trove of background material that meshed really well with the original canon.
I still use mine extensively. Even the ones that were an incredible dry read *fondles the Imperial Sourcebook*
I'd like some timeline books - tied to the trilogies, individual films, events and that stuff. Ignore the heroes (at least statwise), but adapt so that it can be used with the players.
I know I probably wouldn't use it much, but a Shadows of the Empire-type scenario for smugglers during the battle of Hoth (Dash Rendar go home
) could be cool, add in similar alternate takes on Battle of Yavin, Endor and other events, that could be cool... at least as starting points.

According to SW Insider it is. Not the current, but previous issue (I think), had a rather long article on the EU, where WEG's work from the 80s was central - it also had quotes/statements from an interview with Zahn about that stuff... he was put in contact with them, and used a lot of their stuff apparently.

Han didn't shoot first. He was the only one to shoot.
I would be fine not having a book about movies that I've seen hundreds of times.

I agree, especially that there are WEG sourcebooks. I was happy when FFG announced Corellian sourcebook, which was something new. I hope they publish sourcebooks that were not covered by WEG or WotC. I'd love to see a full Yuuzhan era sourcebook.
To say nothing of Troy Denning having done some d6 work...
Incidentally, I can pretty safely say that Empire and Rebellion: Razor's Edge is basically an Edge of the Empire game that just so happened to have Han and Leia "in the party".
That is, not only in themes but even in scale...
I've liked all of Troy Denning's work and he seemed to have a great grasp of Han's character, both his heroic and scoundrel sides. I remember the 'choose-your-own-adventure', 'Smuggler's Luck', with fondness.
I don't think FFG will do movie sourcebooks because there are already great guides out there. I'm sure FFG will cover all the ships, weapons, equipment etc you could want. But while their SW games are set in the movie era, they don't seem to be telling the story of the movies, so I don't see why you'd need movie sourcebooks.
If you really needed to stat Boba Fett or Vader you could do so using the EoE bounty hunter and jedi as a base. NPC stat blocks are not complicated like d20 ones, NPCs really just need the basics to confront the PCs. (And that way you could make your own Boba Fett, whether you thought he was 'badass', or a fairly minor character whose importance has been artificially elevated by fanboys on the basis that he 'looks cool' ![]()

Yup.
What was hilarious was when I was skimming through a video games magazine years later and read someone's letter to the editor "informing" the editor that Zahn came up with all of that stuff.

WEG has possibly done more for the setting than even George Lucas, but remains completely unknown for much of the fan population.

Agreed. I want to see new material.
