Choosing is Difficult, Bomber Squad decisions..

After I picked up a couple of extra bombers in a spur of the moment shopping spree (totaling 3), I have had lots of fun making bomber squads. I'd like to share a few of my favorites in hopes to make a decision on what to play with at a local tourney. (Ignore the uncreative names) My wife will get sick of me talking about X Wing if I don't share this! Tell me what looks the must fun to play, and least fun to play against!

Some of my first thoughts on using bombers.

1. Placing bombs effectively requires higher PS, Intelligence Agent, or baiting enemies into setting up a head on alpha strike with crafty asteroid placement.

2. It is not easy getting those Target locks with the PS 2 Scims, so I've tried to stray away from relying on their missile ordinance. Gamma's can alpha with less reliance on Initiative. I DO wish there was a PS5 generic bomber with an Elite Pilot Upgrade. Deadeye could be of some use on a bomber since other pilot upgrades are much better on Jonus and Rhymer.

3. Just EXPECT to be hit with crits. However, these guys do well at not dying to HLC in one blast.

Nice idea. how about this variant.

at close range u have cluster missile options and Turr with PTL is very good.

Thanks for the ideas. I have a tough time choosing between PTL and VI on Turr. VI with initiative can give you a shot on a PS9 before you barrel roll out. Just depends on the amount of PS8 PS9 pilots I see.

I run 2 Scimitars with Proton Bombs alongside Howlrunner with a Stealth Device and Adrenaline Rush and 3 Academy Ties.

This tends to eat things.

I like Gammas more. Unless you have a squad leader or a shuttle nearby giving TLs, its hard to aquire target locks.

Also if you intend to use bombs, the higher pilot skill will come in handy. If you going to use mines, Scimitars are just right for the job.

I only own 2 bombers, so my bomber squad has to be just those 2 plus some support. Playing around with it some:

Alternatively, you can upgrade the seismic charges to proton bombs by dropping the cluster missiles, which also leaves you the points to give Jendon the Anti-Pursuit Lasers.

oh yeah i can see how PS 9 on Turr would be gr8 here too. why not replace PTL with Veteran Instincts on Turr and add Squad Leader to Jonus?

Gamma's are worth playing over Scimitars as the high PS gives u the edge versus enemy squads with lots of 2 pilot skill ships.

That does sound pretty good. Jonus with more supporting abilities is always nice, and makes him more useful after the first pass.

How about this squad...

Replace Turr with Vader and maybe drop Gamma down to scims to give Vader a missile.

Just a thought. I can't decide if an interceptor 'feels' right, and Vader can provide more support for TL + Focus for bombers, especially post missile firing.
