Rebel fleet help.

By Sammyjack76, in X-Wing

Hi, this is my 1st post, so be gentle with me :) I've not long started playing and at the moment only have 2 X-Wings and the YT 1300 for the Rebels, and struggling with choosing a 100pt force for a campaign day that's coming up at my local club, what I've come up with so far is:

CHEWBACCA

Veteran instincts, concussion missiles, millennium falcon = 49pts

RED SQUADRON PILOT

Proton torpedoes = 27pts

ROOKIE PILOT

Proton torpedoes = 25pts

Would it be better to swap the Red squadron pilot and both proton torpedoes on the X-Wings for a named pilot, say Garven Dreis or Wedge + Elusiveness ???, bearing in mind I only have the upgrade cards that come with the core set, X-wing, YT 1300, Tie interceptor and Firespray.

Cheers.

Trade Veteran Instincts and Concussion Missiles for a Gunner.

No, seriously. Now. 360* arc, and you attack again if your first attack did no damage? Yes please. If you use Han Solo instead of Chewbacca (for all of the Torpedo payments, and demoting the Red Squad to a Rookie), you've got the competitive fleet known as "Han Shoots First", which is very beginner friendly... unless you're fighting against it.

If you're keeping the proton torps, I'd definitely demote the Red to a Rookie, and get 2 R2-Astromech Droids (I think they're Core). Getting those extra Greens means you can do your Reds more often, for less of a penalty.

Biggs could be good teamed with chewbacca and a rookie x-wing pilot.

i agree gunner is a must on chewy.

I'm definitely seconding the move to add a Gunner, or even crewman Luke, to the Falcon. Needing to miss twice is harder than missing once especially if you force an opponent to spend resources making the first attack miss.

Can see what you mean about gunner, possibly 6 attack dice per turn every turn is way better than 4 for 1 turn :D

Just been playing around on http://x-wing.voidstate.com/build and could do:

HAN SOLO

Gunner, veteran instincts, millennium falcon = 53pts

GARVEN DREIS = 26pts

ROOKIE PILOT = 21pts

Most likely that Garven would stay near the Falcon to drop his focus on it, and the rookie would just act as a "decoy"/ cannon fodder.

Do like Chewbacca though for the fact that he can't suffer critical hit effects i.e those pesky Direct Hits!!

HAN SOLO

Gunner, veteran instincts, millennium falcon = 53pts

GARVEN DREIS = 26pts

ROOKIE PILOT = 21pts

Solo with Gunner is an even better combo, as he's got that natural target-lock thing going on. By including Garven Dreis, I'm guessing you want Solo to do his Evade action every turn, but Garven gives his focus AFTER Solo already attacks. If Solo's going to focus anyway, it's cheaper to have 2 Rookie Pilots, and give Han a Recon Specialist as a 2nd co-pilot. This has the added benefit of potentially using BOTH focuses on offense, if they manage to dodge the first attack you focused on.

Also, Veteran Instincts doesn't really do much on a Level 9 pilot. The only people who shoot before you are other folks with Veteran Instincts, or folks in a Roark Garnett fleet.

Garven gives his focus AFTER Solo already attacks.

Didn't think of that, cheers. I don't have the Recon specialist card so that's out, but like the idea, and yeah Veteran instincts does seem a bit pointless on Han come to think of it.

What expansions have you purchased?

I have the core set, X-wing, YT 1300, Tie interceptor and Firespray

Wedge, Biggs + R2-D2, and Chewbacca.

I was under the impression that the super powered Han has him with Marksmanship and Gunner. Marksmanship is like a super focus action used for attack that happens to work on all the attacks made instead of just one.

Oh, another thing, while gunner will allow you a second attack if the first misses that is not the same as rolling six dice. Also note that Han is NOT a "natural target lock thing" as using his ability requires re-rolling ALL possible dice which would mean any hits or even crits you had.

I agree with what has been said. Han is better than chewy in so many ways. Being able to kill a TIE before he shoots at you is on of the Falcon's best defense.

Also I don't find that missiles are that great of a buy on ship that already has three attack dice.

A gunner or maybe even Luke himself make great upgrades. Especially on Han who can use his ability on the gunner/Luke shot.

Of course if you make those changes you basically have HSF.

It's probably not competitive, and not as popular as Han, but I really like lando teaming up with somebody. If you get your hands on a y-wing, Dutch is my favorite. If not, being able to hand out some actions to other ships is incredibly useful.

hmmm, Lando (gunner + millennium falcon), Garven Dreis, Red Squadron pilot (99pts in total) may be ok to play.

Lando passes the free action (focus) to Garven, who uses his action to target lock, then uses the "free" focus and passes it onto the Red pilot, who has used his action to target lock. Could then either use the spare point for an R5 unit on Garven or veteran instincts on Lando, or leave it off to hopefully gain the initiative.
