Flight school?

By Millennium Falsehood, in X-Wing

I've struggled with maneuvering for a while. It's not that I don't know where I want my ships to go, but when I try to fly them I don't always end up where I want to go and often crash into my own ships, making me lose action.

Is there an online guide which provides maneuver diagrams? A flight school, if you will?

I don't know if there is one, because the combinations of maneuvers are so many. However, I would like some advanced tactics lessons, to open my mind.

There is the basics on bbg. Look up tutorials there and the manuevering 101 should come up. Thats where i learned and it is great.

I saw this somewhere on this website. He walks you through flying formations and how to familiarize yourself with where your ships might end up.

His other videos are good too.

I would even recommend sitting down with the maneuver templates and a few ships and figuring out how you can move them around. The biggest thing I have found is the 1 on the movement dial is 1 base length ahead.

play with yourself, just trying to do different things. A fun one is starting your ships where you''d want them turn 2 or 3, and then working backwards to figure out your starting positions.

One thing that really helped me is knowing that alot of the time asteriods are RB2 from table edge, and RB2 is movement 4 with small ship, or movement 3 with big ship (including bases)

I would recommend that you download the maneuvers test bench that one player developed and was kind enough to post here: http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/924037/working-on-a-maneuvers-test-bench

This test bench is simple to use and has all the movement dials for each ship built in, plus boosts/barrel rolls. You can also place asteroids.

One of the guys in our group has made some solo-scenarios for most of the ships. Our facebook group name is: Upstate South Carolina X-Wing Alliance. They are in the files section. Most of them involve setting up "targets" around the board, and then flying around to target lock/ attack them in a certain number of turns. They not only help you leran how to move, but will teach you the capabilities of each ship.

Heh, reminds me of the pilot proving ground from X-wing/TIE fighter on the PC. would you/they be willing to post some of those scenarios?

That's where he got most of the inspiration. I will see about getting them posted.
