9littlebees Alternate Character Sheet

By 9littlebees, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

OK, after my previous thread on revised NPC sheets portrayed a different way of showing characteristics alongside their related skills, I decided to do the same for PC character sheets.

After all, this makes an easy way to find your dice pool, without having to draw in new icons or print off a new sheet every time a PC levels up.

I've borrowed (with permission) much of the design of the top third from the excellent character sheet by Aazlain, which is my recommended sheet if you want a more standard layout.

So anyway, here's my first effort. It is for page 1 only (and in A4 format for now). My plan is to have about half a page devoted to gear on page 2, with the other half as yet undecided. I'm thinking player aids of some kind, since I currently have too many handouts for my players...

I've also included some stuff in the margins, as my players are often stuck with swearing in canon (censored), and maneuvers to use in combat. Oh, and the ABC's in Aurebesh, of course.

Looks like a lot of fun :) Thanks for sharing!

It's that time of the year, when we hunt ideas for 9littlebees :)

Well have to say the sheet looks great, I really like the assemble of the skills with characteristics.

Though having all the in green/blue is a bit confusing, but I'm not sure that mixing other colors would be that great either.

The other thing is simple, but about the motivations. Some PC have multiple motivations (such as mine) but it's quite a small thing.

And lastly I would change the word "Acquired" to something like "stored" or "safe". Acquired induces the idea about all the credits you acquired in total during the PC's entire life. Then again it may be me beeing edgy.

A part from that, the sheets looks great. I really like it.

Ha! Yeah, seem to be in that mood at the moment. :)

I'm also struggling with the colouring scheme. I tried going greytone, but really didn't like the central portion. I'm struggling a bit with how busy this first page is, but I really wanted to design something which fits all this stuff on one page.

Good point about "acquired" - I think I personally prefer the term "stored", since "safe" implies it is 100% guaranteed, which certainly isn't the case in the Outer Rim!

Not sure about adding to the motivation, but I'll have a think about it and see if I can incorporate it somehow... What do you think about just having two boxes without labels under motivation? Limits the extra detail you can write in, but would allow two different ones to be entered.

I really applaud the use of the margins for the expletives and potential actions.

way too busy, plus no room in margin to 3hole punch

all the flavor text stuff about motivations & obligations should be on 2nd or 3rd sheet. Important stuff for actually running a game should be priority on 1st page

I agree it's busy, but "too" busy is a matter of opinion.

There's no space for 3-hole punching since this isn't a feature I would utilise, and would eat into valuable design area.

Maybe I should have made this clearer on the first post, but I'm aiming to get all pertinent info on 1 page, with the reverse only having a gear section plus some game aid info.

I'd argue that this system puts a big focus on flavour, and that's why it's on the first page. Players get extra XP for roleplaying their motivations, so to me this is "important stuff".

Thanks for the feedback, though.

Strongly concur.

Maybe one box with two levels? If you have one motivation only, you can fill up the details. If you have two, then you have two levels to fill in? With the sheet's current setting that's how I would see it.

Maybe bringing the color palette closer together will make it look a little less busy. I'm no visual artist so I can't really give you a technical term for it. You could probably sample the colors from the original sheet to tone it back a bit, or even a greyscale option. I to like how it turned out though.

Then you need to go shoot some blaster holes through it for that authentic flavor.

OK, so I've made the second page and turned everything greyscale. Credits have been moved to the back page so that they are listed alongside the gear (which makes a bit more sense to me).

I've also added a half page for a vehicle's stats. I know that probably only the pilot will be interested in the attachments, but this way everyone can get involved in ship combat, as they will see all the pertinent stats in front of them.

I've had to cherry pick some of the reference info. What I've landed on are some of the most pertinent that will fit in the space.

I'm pretty happy with how this has turned out, but (as always) am reasonably open to suggestions.

Looks great to me. I have nothing special to say about this version =)

A couple of things: I would consider putting the ship info on its own sheet. A ship should be considered a character on its own. If anything you could combine it with group info such as obligation for everyone and group loot.

The second issue is that there is no roo. For custom skills. Now while this is usually a house rule, beyond the rim did offer a new, albiet specialized, skill. I would include room for these.

I second the "ship as a second sheet" that That Blasted Samophlange suggests.

That said, that's a great sheet you've put together!

[edit] If you do end up moving the ship to another sheet, that room would be a good place for a quick reference on spending advantages.
