Help me decide on my tournament squad

By SmartCookie, in X-Wing

I'm going to my first tournament this Sunday and have narrowed down the squad I'm bringing to one of the following two. Which one should I pick?

List 1 (100pts)

Wedge (29)

Blue B-Wing with HLC (29)

Rookie X-Wing (21)

Rookie X-Wing (21)

List 2 (100pts)

Blue B-Wing with HLC (29)

Dutch Vander with Ion Turret and R5 (29)

Rookie X-Wing (21)

Rookie X-Wing (21)

All comments are welcome.

Tough choice.

Without flying them its hard to say, specially as an imp player but i try and look at it from my point of view.

What do I fear? What do I kill first?

Think my choice for best list would be list 2.

Wedge just seems a little exposed.

Not to confuse things by changing your lists but I am not a fan of R5, would probablt take R2 astro instead.

Alternately could take autoblaster in list 1 and use spare points for fire control system or swarm tactics on wedge to give him a wingman

I like list 2 more. I would drop Dutch down to a gold squadron. Give the 2 Rookies R2 units and the B-Wing Fire Control.

You will then have all your ships move at the same time and there is no specific target to pick on.

If you're gonna run Wedge, you need upgrades on him otherwise he's an expensive Rookie Pilot. Think about putting R2-D2 and a shield upgrade on Wedge. However, this will mean you'll have to run a 3 ship squad instead of a 4 ship squad.

R2-D2 and Shield will most definately not save him, just make him a bigger target. I would go PTL and Engines if I was going to throw more points at him, which you clearly dont hvae room for.

List 2 would be my pick, and I like EnglishPete's suggestions. But I could see flying it with Dutch too. Sure, they can focus him, but its hardly the end of the world if they do. ohnoes, not my Ion cannon and lock shenanigans! If something is going to get focused, may as well be him. Better than them focusing the B right off.

I would have to say list 2.

While R5 on Dutch is definitely a good idea, its not essential to this build, so you can remove it and keep the list at 99 points if you want to try for initiative.. which might be a better idea in the long run.

Also, instead of the HLC on the Blue, you could run Adv. Sensors and either Ion Cannon or Engine Upgrade.

That's exactly what I thought. He might draw the attention away from the B-Wing which is the hard hitter.

PTL and R2 on Wedge, that's it.

Hello,

I put your two squadrons in the Squadrons Generator :

List 1 (100pts) => http://goo.gl/xNTmrl
Wedge (29)
Blue B-Wing with HLC (29)
Rookie X-Wing (21)
Rookie X-Wing (21)

List 2 (100pts) => http://goo.gl/RdJzEk
Blue B-Wing with HLC (29)
Dutch Vander with Ion Turret and R5 (29)
Rookie X-Wing (21)
Rookie X-Wing (21)

So you can easily reload then using the links above in the genrator ( http://fabpsb.free.fr ) and tweak them as you want after having tranfer then.

bye

I like the 2nd list as is or the downgrade to dutch and the R2's + FCS for the blue that was suggest earlier. I play most Imperials but that is the list I would "fear" most of the 2. The first is just asking me to wipe out Wedge after he gets in 1 round of shooting and get in close to the B wing to neuter the HLC. Depends on how well you fly that Bwing.

List 2. Passing out Target Locks and Ion Tokens enables the rest of your fleet way more than the (admittedly huge) damage of Wedge.

That being said, I have discovered I like the Advanced Sensors + Engine Upgrades on a B-Wing better than the HLC. 4 dice of damage at any range is good, but never losing an action coupled with insane maneuverability (including an ANGLED KOIOGRAN) is to die for, particularly if you can pass a target lock to him as well.

Thats a very interesting observation,, makes them more of a brawler. I like it, will have to try it.
