The Virago.

By Englishpete, in X-Wing

Just as an info point, here is the scale comparison. Pretty much exact.

That die cast modle is to scale, i was thinking about making a modle of the ship to use but found found the micro machine one. i compared it the scale drawing i made of the Virago and it's the same size

I was thinking of producing a PS 1, PS 3, PS 4 and extra named pilot card so that Xizor could be fielded as a stand alone. The canon really requires him to be fielded so.

I certainly want a few of these puppies on the table.

Canon wise, this ship had X-Wing firepower with Interceptor mobility, so the Advanced dial seems a good compromise.

The model I am using is the 3" Titanium version. You can get them for $10 - $15 each.

Expect fully finished cards for the PS 3 and Xizor tomorrow.

Check my new StarViper (Virago) post for final cards. :-)

One thought for Xizor's Virago only was to give it the Systems upgrade, denoting the fact it is a superior model.

Thoughts?

My thoughts are still that it shouldn't be able to evade.

If evade were to be dropped, then I would add the systems upgrade icon across all the ships.

So I play tested these last night and it just isn't quite right. It's just out of balance and to like a souped up X-Wing. I went back to the drawing board and thought about "weapons platform" and "maneuverability" and flexibility.

I came up with a concept based out of the A-Wing.

PS 1

Att 2 represents standard weapons fitted to the ship

Agi 3 reflects the fact the ships were hard to hit due to constant motion

Hull 2 reasonable based on not wanting to be an X-Wing Clone

Sheilds 2 reflects the fact the ship was well armored.

I then gave it Focus and Boost to represent basic functions described to be attributed to the ship. I dropped Target Lock and Evade. Evade was taken away to represent the fact the ship is quite large. Target Lock was taken to enforce some decisions on the player. (see below)

I then gave it these upgrade options

Proton Torpedo

Systems Upgrade (This represents the ship having the ability to upgrade its weapons computer with Fire Control or maneuverability with Advanced Sensors or difficulty in being hit with Sensor Jammer. All these are high tech options that show the customizable nature of the StarViper platform.)

Heavy Laser Cannon. (Represents the upgraded weapons that could be fitted to a StarViper and also the stand off nature a weapons platform might have as closing range with an HLC means firepower at R1 is reduced that means trading of close in maneuvers and ability to avoid hits vs doing damage)

If you then take into account the normal modifications that are available to ships the player has many options to improve the ship, which drives up the cost in points which is exactly what this ship should be about.

Also, as set PtL is now no longer the automatic EPS either.

I would use the A-Wing dial, this thing was highly maneuverable and a basic ship would be 17 pts.

What is fun is an upgraded ship costs much more:

Ship (17)

FCS (2)

HLC (7)

APT (6)

Shield (4)

that's now 36 pts.

I really think this works out and makes the player think about what they want.

The higher level pilots would be costed accordingly with a PS 3 pilot coming in at 19 points. A PS 4 with Elite pilot at 21. Xizor would be 27 and Makin would be 25.

Thoughts on the revamp?

Without target lock, how does it fire the Proton Torpedoes?

You would have to take Fire Control Systems.

The point was not to make this a kill all machine, but a trade between specialties, much like the Viper is supposed to be.
