Anyone having problems with Voidstate Squadron Builder?

By BigM2010, in X-Wing

I'm having problems with the Voidstate Squad Builder - it used to work perfectly, but a couple of weeks ago I used the function to load up my available ships, and since then I've had problems. (I don't know if this caused the problems or it's just a coincidence)

I'm using IE/Windows 7

Sometimes it locks up when saving squads. Usually I have problems accessing saved squads - they appear as empty frames, or only have the first ship in them.

Also when building squads the ships are sometimes variable - occasionally they have an extra action icon (boost), and occasionally are missing some of the upgrade buttons so that I can't add things

I logged on using a friend's computer and Chrome as the browser, and the Squad builder worked fine. I logged on with my own computer with Chrome and it worked fine. I then used IE and it went bad again, and Chrome now doesn't help either

I see on some forums that this happened earlier this year, but it appeared to go away all by it's self. Does anyone know how to sort this?

Stop using IE. :P

Seriously. Who uses IE anymore?

Has nothing to do with IE. The guy who owns and runs it is on vacation, I think in Nepal, hiking, and hasn't been able to work on it due to spotty internet access. It is having issues with all browsers.

Yep, I have experienced the same things, as mentioned above the developer is out of pocket at the moment.

Can't wait til he can update it, because it truly is one of my favorite web apps to use, not just my favorite X-Wing squad builder. It's elegant and smart and so visually attractive that I haven't been able to look at another online squad builder!

Don't knock Internet Explorer. Its the browser most used to download other browsers.

I found that to get it to work for me, I had to log out and stay logged out.

I constantly have to clear cache to make it work after I load in my first saved squad

Thanks for the info, guys.

I'll try logging out and clearing the cache. Otherwise wait until he gets back from Nepal

Try geordanr. It is by far the best X-Wing site now.

Agreed. http://geordanr.github.io/xwing/

Hello,

IE is a really bad idea, perhaps IE10 is better but previous version are very bad.

For my squadrons generator I didn't try to make it IE compatible.

If you had time you can try it here : http://fabpsb.free.fr/

Main feature :

- Manual generator with constraint regarding what you own

- Manual generator free mode removing the above constraint

- Random generator

- Tranfer feature between the generation modes

- Print features

- Share features using google shortener api

- List of expansions and cards

bye

I use geordanr, and thinks it awesome, but I havnt tried the other one yet geo

I have to say that I find the Voidstate UI infinitely more pleasing than Geordanr, which I've yet to finish a build in simply because I can't stick with it.

What in particular makes it difficult to create builds? I'm open to suggestions for making the flow clearer.

You cant please everyone geordan. You have a good product, keep it up.

WoW, Geordan, either one it did not load for me correctly the first time I tried last week or you made some awesome updates. Last time I tried, I could not save anything, and could only see the Fancy Text version. So now that I can see those items I am a huge fan of your product. the not saving was killing me. I may have not logged in properly before.... who knows?

Thank you for all your hard Work! and here I was thinking I was going to have to design myself an access database for this...

Granted I have not loaded a bunch of squads, but My only other desired option would be to print multiple squads all on one page, so my wife, friends and I can test out different squads and all have them on the same page... save paper and all. I will try it once I get the chance this weekend!

This is kind of a necro, so hopefully geordan still sees this post. Apologies to OP for going off topic.

Anyway, I do like your squad builder geordan but I have a suggestion. When I try to select a new pilot for my squad, very few pilots are actually displayed in the drop down menu, sometimes making it difficult to scroll through and find the pilot I'm looking for. It would be nice if the drop down menus were longer or the font was smaller (or some combination of these two) so that more pilots could be seen simultaneously. Preferably the former. This isn't something that's a big deal, but it would be nice.

Agreed, I gave up on Voidstate a few days ago because every time I went to add an upgrade card to a pilot they wouldn't load. I ended up searching for squad builders, and geordanr fit the bill perfectly. Definitely give it a shot if you haven't already.

Great product, thanks for putting it out there.

Strange; I haven't had a chance to mess with the code for the last couple of weeks. I'm curious as to what went wrong, but it sounds like a bit of a fluke. I'm glad it's working now!

The code is rather heavily baked around displaying and working with only a single squad at a time; displaying and printing multiple squads at once isn't in the cards at the moment. (It's possible but I believe will require an extraordinary amount of work.)

I'll look into making the dropdowns show more items. Also, if you're not on a mobile device/tablet and you know the name of the card you want to add, you can type in any substring and the dropdown will only show you the cards that match (e.g. you can type in "squad" into the pilot dropdown to see all the Blah Squadron Pilots).

edit: Got lost in my joke-fail... Sorry for the double post.

Blah Squadron was almost as under-appreciated as Meh Squadron, but they never let it bother them. :)
