First time GM starting a 6 player campaign

By rhombusleech, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

After thoroughly enjoying sitting through demos with Jay Little at GenCon the past two years, I invited friends to run through the Beginner Box with the hopes of starting a regular campaign afterwards. I invited six friends with the expectation we'd get four to commit to a regular meetup. Everyone has had so much fun that all six are on board! We've already experienced a few concerns that a group of six presents, but it's nothing that seems daunting (even as a first time GM).

We're finishing up Long Arm of the Hutt in the next session or two and will be jumping into a fresh campaign afterwards. We're having a group discussion tonight on character creation and what everyone would like to play. One of my players has gone ahead and fully created his character as an example for everyone to build ideas from.

Here's his backstory and character sheet. Any suggestions/critiques are welcomed!

Since I am AFB I didn't breakdown the character sheet like I would if I was the GM for this particular player. But I really do love the thought and detail this player put into his character's backstory. I wish my players were that detailed.

My only real critique is that the player gave you too many details. You might have to work a little harder to include Dex's backstory into the adventure in such a way that it surprises the player.

Other than that, I am pretty impressed.

I would agree with kaosoe.

He is missing some skill trainings from character creation

4 career skill training, 2 career specialization training, +2 human non-career skill training

I assume he put his human non-career points into Ranged (heavy), as a GM I would make him pick 2 skills instead of letting him put 2 points in the same.

Great backstory! I might use this hermit on Ryloth as a NPC!

I am the player. Glad you guys like my concept, I believe I fixed the skills issue. I somehow missed I got that many. So for my career skills I picked Mechanics, Astrogation, Piloting (planetary), and Computers. For my Specialization Skills I pIcked Mechanics and Knowledge: Education. For my Human Non-Career Skills I picked Melee and Ranged (Heavy). I took extra XP at character creation by increasing my Obligation to 10 (we have a 6 player group) and then spent points to increase INT to 4, AGI to 3, and Ranged Heavy to Rank 2.
