How expensive it is really depends on what you want to buy and from whom. If you get some sets produced to perfect say WW2 tanks you'll probably be buying from a larger manufacturer and it will be cheaper. The brass sets for more specialised stuff like for the SW model kits are rarer and thus more expensive.
Smugglers Alliance/Convoy - More YT-1300 Customs
Thanks again, I'll have a look to see what I can find.

A lot of extra work, and headaches. This stuff tends to pull up and curl off any surface that is not perfectly flat, also it likes to kink up if you breath on it. The last straw is that it is very expensive and if not treated it will form a bizarre molding that is it's own brand of paint damaging tarnish...stay way away.

Well at least we now know why nobody here uses brass etched parts, thanks for the heads up! :-)
I have to beg to differ here. I use Brass etched parts all the time and have never had a problem. It takes time, patience and a hold and fold tool. For more complex shapes annealing is needed. As usual with all forms of painting, the brass has to be fully washed and dried before painting to remove any residue.
As mentioned the more specialized ''cottage industry'' stuff is more expensive and can be very fragile, but again, no real difference to mainstream stuff.

Every time I look at a pic of the Wild Karrde, I keep thinking "what have I said I'll make?", I think this will take some time to build.

Right...a PIA situation that cost to much for what you get.

what size does this hoover have regarding say an X-wing or a TIE?
The Action VI would be about 11" in 1:270. The action IV and V are a little smaller.
This is a nice YT 1300 conversion if ever I saw one: Steel Fist
The steel fist looks cool, I've got a couple of falcons around so I might give this a go as my next conversion to sell.
I'm also looking at converting a HWK-290, thinking of removing the current engines and replacing them with something a bit different, it may look a bit like the Ravens Claw with what I have planned. I just thought that a HWK-290 or two should hopefully look cool with my YT-1300s.
Edited by ZombieHedgehogZombie,
Have you ever considered making a scratch built CR20? It was an old troop transport which smugglers would've loved to use for illicit transactions.

I haven't but looks like this could be a good idea to build. I think it would be a good project before I begin the Wild Karrde, something that's a little bigger than what I'm already converting, I just need to work out the scale now.
I will be concentrating on my YT-1300 and YT-2400, so in going I try to not get distracted.
I'll try to get some more pics of progress on here this weekend.
Well I've managed to make a little progress on the YT-1300:
I can't see this taking too long to complete now. Just need to box in the top section the start work on the paneling and small details.
Im hoping to free up some time soon so I'm able to work on some more projects for the smugglers alliance. I've started a HWK-290 repaint, not sure how I feel about it at the moment. Unfortunately I can't take good enough photos to post on here but should hopefully be able to soon.
I've got a couple of lists in mind now and hope to play a few games soon.
Edited by ZombieHedgehogHave you considered doing this extra storage for the YT-1300 from the Technical Manual.

Funnily enough I have a screen print of this on my phone. Wasn't sure what the top would look like and haven't really thought about what I could do to be honest with with.
I'm going to try to get the YT-1300 and YT-2400 finished first although they may be delayed to bring forward a couple more YT-1300 that will be selling. I'm really struggling for time at the moment, we've had to rip out our bathroom plumbing and all and start from scratch. I've been working 8:30 - 17:00 then working at the house until 21:00 for the last five weeks so have been a little tored and not been motivated to do much. I need to be in the right mood to work on these just so I don't make mistakes by not being overly bothered.
I do plan on making as many variations of ships as possible! Thanks for the pic!!
If you look over the Escape Pod/Access Panel, you can see the cross section of the stowages. I looks like it's a ring of Triangular Pods. So in the center would be a circle of the original hull.. though it looks like it has a small viewing pod attached to the top too.

Looks cool,I'll have a look in to this, so the plan is to add 4 additional pods to the top of the YT-1300, would the engine section look ok as is or would it look strange if not on the same level as the pods.
I've been working on a 100pts smugglers list just using HWK-290s and YT-1300s. I've started with a repaint of a HWK:
I'm planning on converting a second HWK with a single engine underneath then adding "wings" from the parts I remove so it will have a similar look but be different at the same time.
