Imperial Customs Corvette Kit Bash

By Viceroy Bolda, in X-Wing

See what Bolda's doing, FFG? I would buy this thing in a heartbeat. (lights and all)

wow just sayin this guy needs to be hired from FFG just sayin amazing work !!

Millenium,

I'll get some more pictures of the ships you asked about. I'll have them out for gaming tomorrow. I just put them away and don't feel like getting them all out again. I do have one pic that I took this morning before work. Please excuse my wife's ugly table cloth...

I will fly this tomorrow using the stats which Gosric provided. The only change which I made was to add two missile slots. I used the Firespary base, the reason is that is has firing arcs which I can use for the missiles which only fire broadside! From what I understand, Gosric designed this to be a sort-of planetary patrol vessel. I also ordered his freighter which is similar in design and size, The Voidrunner. I don't have that painted yet. The Voidrunner looks more like a freightor because it has fewer guns and more bulk.

Thanks again for the kind words. Have you worked on your ship lately?

Out of curiosity, what stats did Gosric provide for it?

Chris

Chris,

Gosric's rules allowed the Cutter to fire as an action. There was a problem with that. It had a low pilot skill, so you could move it up to any target you want and fire at it while they have no tokens. While play testing, I moved it to range 1 of Turr Phenir, roller 4 dice for my attack action, rolled ll hits. He had previously used PTL for focus and evade, but he had no defense because it was the movement phase. He lost Turr. Prognosis: "Action:fire" is broken.

The stats I came up with are a ton of fun. Use a firespray base. The forward and rear firing arcs provide arcs for broadside firing. The model has three ports on each side, you can see them in the picture.I claimed that they were missile ports and can fire secondary weapons broadside only. The primary weapons fire 360 degrees.

I live near their studio and have asked if I could bring my shippies to their store. They weren't interested. They aren't technically part of the game.

That makes me sad. You'd think the guys from the studio would want an up-close look at a cool model, at least. It's sort of at odds with the whole customer-outreach standpoint of having forums, events, etc, too. If I were a gaming company, I'd want to encourage such things for PR reasons and even feature them on the company blog. "Here's what our fans are doing..." and all that.

Oh well, I'm still inspired despite their lack of interest. Currently I'm torn between an Arquitens-class and an Escort carrier, personally. This looks like it'd be a cool project even if it's not an official design:

Great build of a beautiful ship. I hope they'll get around to making an official corvette or a similar vessel as I don't have near the modeling skills to make something like your ship.

All I can say is....wow.

nerd boner

So your next project is going to be making a full sized space platform to have your forces fight over, right?

Utterly stunning work, I really should start scratching something together myself...

BOLDA SRTIKESSS...!!!

:D

I just saw the new nite shots with the lights...that is how away I have been. Great work Brother!

:)

Day One. I'm using a Revell Republic Star Destroyer to kit bash a 1/270 scale Imperial customs corvette. This should be fun!

So how big is the original model (head to tail)? I wonder if I could use it as a rough base for a Vigil?

Thanks again Millennium.

I finished the wiring today. I took some pics in the basement then came back upstairs to paint the base, so that is done.

So the base isn't painted and the ship isn't washed in these pics, but I was just so excited to see it all lit up on the base. Hoep you all can see the crew.

<snip several amazing pics>

Thanks for looking.

You sir, are one amazingly talented mofo! I wish you would produce either kits or complete models!

Huh...my first FU to FFG...

Thanks Aequitas. I'm still devising rules for the corvette's tractor beam. I suggested that it functions like an ion, but the corvette commander would get to move the ship in a 1 speed bank or straight in any direction. My regular gaming foe suggested 2 speed templates.

Since it would be easier to maintain a tractor beam once it was established, I thought about giving the TB one additional die to maintain the beam, or reducing the agility of the beamed ship by one. If the beamed ship is pulled up to the corvette's base, that ship has been captured. Only one ship can be captured. Destruction of the corvette releases that ship. Naturally I would attempt to capture the most destructive, or least agile ships in his fleet. I might also just pull his ships into range one and blast them with turbolasers.

I'll make him eat mines and asteroids too.

The first time I play this piece I think that the rebel mission will be to free a freighter from the corvette's talons.

Howzabout a 'reverse ion cannon', when hit the ship takes a 1-straight - backward?

Honestly I don't remember. The original model IMO is awfully skinny to be made into a vigil class corvette. A vigil could easily be made with sheets of polystyrene. I hesitate to make it in case FFG makes one in scale for the game.

They probably want to avoid any possible conflict of interest or lawsuits. By looking at your ships, they add credibility to the idea that they ripped you off if they later decide to do an Imp Customs Corvette. Its the same reason they don't accept submissions in general. It raises issues of plagiarism and so forth. If they can legitimately say, "No, we never look at submissions or fan-made models," then they can avoid a lot of legal hassle.

This would be true for a lot of other games, but not so for X-Wing. In this instance because the fans are making models on existing IP which FFG is licensed to use, FFG would simply be drawing inspiration from the existing IP and not any fan made contributions.

Also anyone making these scratchbuilds would be unable to sell their work since it would be breaching Disney/Lucasfilm IP to make money from their designs.

Same here Brother...I was all over it but then considered that they are probably going to make a Vigil and a Nebulan B...I am willing to bet on it. When they do then I will make some other ships with my huge model kits.

Sure, but company policy is company policy. They're not going to have separate rules for every game/IP. Also, not so sure that's the case when it comes to stats/mechanics. Not that this is what would be shown in this case, but again, playing it safe.

Looking to fund another project. Thinking about selling this with the cards. I wonder if anybody would be interested? Not sure how to go about it. ebay?

eBay seems as solid an option as any,

People love this thread. Put the link on here when it goes live and I'm sure plenty of people will jump on it!

Love it! Turrets look a bit boxy and break up the sleek silhouette of the Customs Corvette, but I love it. Such a sucker for kitbashes in X-Wing
