Imperial Customs Corvette Kit Bash

Ain't big nuff...

 ^_^

I like the solid look of the thing a lot! Also I guess using the kit's hull parts saves you a lot of greebling, very nice.

Did they ever say the scale of the FFG capitol ship models? I guess I didnt catch it.

I guess the scale of the large ships is 1:600

I started the observation deck, which will be crewed (hopefully) and illuminated (definitely). Here is a mock up just for fun.

I also started to make crew. Here is one of my doids. I'm going to make a GONK and see how it looks.

Someone correct me here, but I think that z-scale for model railroading is 1:220. I was going to look for some policemen, or military personnell.

I shrunk the size of the ship, true. If I can keep the crew in 1:270 scale, that would make me happy.

Z-scale is indeed 1:220 or 1:200, depending on the source.

A Quick Google shows a good selection of figures http://www.hobbylinc.com/z_scale_model_railroad_figures though I cannot vouch for the retailer.

A glance through their catalog though and you can see several entries for "rail workers" and "policemen" that could be painted to use as Imperials.

If you want stormtroopers the old AMT/ERTL hoth battle diarama could also work, but the scale is more like 1:156 or so.

The difference between 1:350 and 1:270 scale is 1.5mm. I think you won't notice it in the long run if you go with the Tamiya figures, but it's your model. :)

But be prepared for people to say "Isn't that one a little short for a stormtrooper?"

Or you can just wait until the first of the year and buy mine, for a whole great big $10...

OH and I like my Imperial Guard Epic Armegeddon command pack for little 1/300 Imperials.

Where'd you get them Rodent?

The Epic stuff has been out of print for quite awhile now.

If your local hobby shop or FLGS has a trade-ins cabinet, you could take a look and see if anyone has traded in an Epic imperial guard army, or poke about the dustier corners for an unsold box. Failing that, I'd suggest searching the usual marketplaces for things like "Epic 40k Imperial Guard" or "Epic Armageddon Imperial Guard". You may be able to pick them up used for a pretty reasonabe price and simply repaint them.

It's worth noting that a simple soak in Simple Green for 12 hrs or so and a light brushover with a toothbrush will take off most acrylic hobby paints. (an old broke 40k player's secret weapon against poverty and near-permament economic enslavement to Games Workshop)

What Xeonic said.

Don't buy that stupid gw cartoon dwarfism crap, just wait for my anatomically correct and on topic metal sets.

:D

These are the metal blanks I had cast last year...and are what I am using to sculpt the super sexy new models...working on them right now in fact.

This looks awesome, good to see the tie fighter to get a better idea of how big this is. You thought about the colour scheme for the paint yet?

I'm not sure what the paint will look like. What color most terrifies your smugglers? I'll paint their nightmares.

Black and dark slate (blue'ish) gray...baby!

Bright pink with yellow pokedots scare my smugglers!

I think a classic grey would look awesome, with it being an imperial ship.

How long do you think it will take to get this finished as I'm really looking forward to seeing this when it's done.

There seems to be quite a lot of custom threads and there are even a few that aren't mine, which I keep polluting th forum with. It's nice to see something different for the game. I also really like that you can see some different ships without FFG having to release something. I used to love the game because you could play it straight from the box but I love doing a bit of cutting, gluing and painting like I used to for other games.
