Wouldn't it be cool if...

By Thrawnshand, in X-Wing

they had a more advanced version of the game, where you heavily modified your ships? Say different types of shields, engines, weapons systems, targeting systems, that you built into your ship to make it uniqe?

I know the game does this on a base level, but if you could pick specific systems (at a point cost) to improve your vehicle, like different avionics and stabilizers, that were available because of completeing missions, pilot skill etc?

This way every ship could have a unique disparity to add more complexity to the game?

Well, yeah I guess that would be cool: but I would not be playing it.As it is I nearly ever use all available upgrades anyway so why more tweaking? Also it might make the game less balanced...

I guess Im just looking at things from the films, like how Han has modified the Falcons engines beyond their original design, and things like flipping shields to double front, which no doubt increases the shield strength on the front of the vehicle and drops it on the rear. Or if say you X-wing takes damage, having your R2 unit reroute power from some systems, like if you had stronger shields, to compansate for a damaged weapon?

There could be specific damage card piles, (Engines, cockpit, hull, weapons, targeting, etc,) that could be either fatal or unconsequentional depending on the type of choices you decided to field in your vessel.

Now I can see this work for the special named characters like Luke, Han, Boba etc...

1- Han's ship is highly modified already. Compare it to the Smuggler. You can modify it further if you want.

2- I actually love the simplicity of this game. I have played lots of games over the years and I have come to really appriciate simplicity.

Compare Starfleet battles to Attack Wing. I enjoy attack wing infinitely more.

Oh trust me I love the simplicity of the game as well. Thats why the idea Im proposing is an advanced version. And yes Han's ship is highly modified, but once every uses the Falcon, its still the Falcon. Im talking about you choose what engines are in there, what systems, what type of shielding units etc.

Lucas equated the Falcon to a souped up Hot Rod, thats kinda the feel I'm going for here. Just a way to say, here I modified this ship to my liking.

Attack wing has more of that element to it... but the ships sucks

Yeah, but Ive always been a Star Wars Fan first, Trekkie second.

In a lot of ways you're just asking for some way to price homemade ships for the game. You want a ship with a 3/3/3/5 stat line, interceptor like dial, turreted primary weapon, and a number of upgrade slots? It should be possible provided you could figure out the right point cost for such a ship.

yes it would be cool to hav specific dmg decks for pilots, just the really good ones with PS 8 or 9.

I see this happening in a more pen and paper version. Has anyone looked at the age of rebellion rule book yet? Not connected to x wing minis rules in any way shape or form but you could use the rpg rules and the minis together...

Then we could play X-Wing Fleet battles (hybrid of Star Fleet Battles). Sorry, the Beer & Pretzels level of the game is an appeal. It is fine the way it is.
