if there was one thing you could change about x-wing, what would it be?

By The_Brown_Bomber, in X-Wing

How about Clone Wars. My son use to watch it all the time, and loved it. I can't remember but do they have any ships that would be cool in X-Wing?

Arc-170 is a beautiful ship

I really like the V-17 too

and then there is the Kuat's Eta-2 Actis-class light interceptor

and though I've never been a huge fan, I know quite a lot of people like the Aethersprite

I find the game plays quite well with lots of players and full squadrons of ships. My preferred recipe for big games is to avoid upgrade cards (except for munitions), and combine 2 scenario goals that keeps the action spread out across a larger table.

The biggest change I'd like to see would be Wave 1 always in stock. That recurring shortage is the biggest challenge facing new players.

As a new player so far I'd have to agree with the couple of posts here about the availability of wave 1 ships...want to build and expand the scope of the game. I've got as far as buying a second core set and now I'm just sitting and waiting.

Thanks Rodent for posting those, I would love to have those ships in the game.

Darth Vader.

I must give the prelude that I still prefer X-wing to Attack Wing, but Attack wing does have quite a few little refinements that I like.

1- seperate pilot from ship

2- I like the way Attack wing handles Ordinance. You dissable the card rather than disguard it.

I would make a small change: I would change it so that Blaster Turrets could fire at Dark Curse.

Well, I see the prospects for other factions as future expansion (ie: Pirates, Hutts, Black Sun, Republic, Sith, etc)... so I don't really consider those things I would change in the current game. More ships are still more ships... pace ourselves folks!

Something that I feel is quite ineffective in the current rules is Asteroids. Most matches seem to avoid them totally, so I don't feel like they add the dynamism that they should. I suppose this is an idea for future expansion as well: but I would like to see more abilities that interact with asteroids to increase their (potentially beneficial) effect. Examples: "Playing Chicken, Elite Pilot Ability, 2pts, Whenever you move through an asteroid, gain 1 agility. If you end movement on an asteroid gain 2 agility instead. You still are effected normally by asteroids (losing action, damage, etc)." or a (relatively cheap) pilot's ability: "Whenever <Pilot> is attacking the defender does not gain any additional evade dice at range 3, but asteroids block <pilot>'s line of sight to their target."

Asteroids are great, they really change up the game if you keep them fairly dense.

Have you guys tried playing 150 points instead of 100? How does that change the game?

150 is really fun, support ships like the HWK and the Lambda become a bit more viable. The game length doesn't feel significantly longer, as ships tend to get focused down a bit faster at the start.

Two minor changes I would have liked..

Red Squadron pilots seem to have gotten a raw deal for points value. They look like they should have had an elite medal upgrade there to make em worth it.

And the other is the tournament scoring.

Draw should be 2 points each.

Minor loss should grant a point other wise people can throw the game because there is nothing to play for.

Missions, goals, scenarios.....

More, many, many more. I wouldn't even mind suggested builds for missions/scenarios. We don't have to use them but it would be nice.

A book of 50 missions with pre-built squads.

Not a big fan of the whole if your ship goes off the edge it's destroyed / fled thing. Its space, no reason why the ship can't come back on in the next turn from where it flew off..

HA this makes me think of Starwars battlefront 1 & 2.

"You are now leaving the battle field!"

"Return to the battle field!"

I would make a small change: I would change it so that Blaster Turrets could fire at Dark Curse.

Amen!

Personally i would change the price on this game, the started pack seems far enough of a price on Amazon but how great would it be if it was $10 for Reg ships and $15 for larger ship (Like Slave 1 not the ones coming out in the spring) I could have a pretty nice collection if the ships were cheaper. But the game is still worth it!

Too bad they still have to make money.

I'd want a better way to multiplayer. It's only 1v1 at the moment, and that's problematic.

I'm not sure why you feel the game is limited to 1v1...I play 2v2s and 3v3s quite a bit...and soon will have a 4v4 Campaign spread across 3 battlemats all tied together in a story.

There's really no limit to how many players you can have in MP. :)

Please share more about this.

I honestly think MP is not an issue. What's stopping you from doing 2v2, 200 points each side, on a 4x4 board?

but how great would it be if it was $10 for Reg ships and $15 for larger ship...

It would be even better if they were free... Or best yet, if they paid me for playing the game. :)

But serriously, the cost of X-Wing stuff is really very good. It's by far the cheapest miniture game out there when you look at the cost per list.

I've spent nealry as much on X-Wing as I have Warhammer 40k. But for that money I could put 1 40k list on the table, and 8 or so X-Wing lists...

Point taken on how much more affordable X-wing is compared to other miniatures, glad i took a liking to this one then :D

One thing I would change is I'd use the bases from Attack Wing instead of the ones we have now. Those bases have an actual slot that the templates fit into and not the nubs we have on our bases. It's one of the few things Attack Wing actually got right.

I would love more missions. I enjoy objective based gaming far more than just "kill the other guy". X-Wing is fast and furious to make shoot em' ups fun, bur I would love more objectives.

i think some campaign rules would be cool. u could create a pilot and maybe have a 'skill tree' or 'upgrades tree' where as u get more experience from combats u can improve ur pilot or ship.

I'm really missing a campaign book, like what Memoir '44 did. A whole branching storyline of missions to play through would be awesome! I've played both the X-Wing and TIE Fighter PC games like crazy back then, and just like some players already did, those missions would lend themselves perfectly for bringing them to the table.
