Which Lieutenant Pack to get?

By Krawallburste, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

So guys,

Im quite eager to get my hands on those promising plot decks.

finally some skill cards for the overlords, to interact a little more with the heroes descisions!

Also I'm very interested in how the new(old) threat token resource will work out, which new strategies will emerge out of this? how will it change the OL-Gameplay and those of the heroes.

I'd like to hear your opinions on which lieutenant-pack you will (first :3) get.

I, for myself cant really decide... . For there are 3 Plot-Decks i'd like to try out.

1) Goblin Uprising

- it seems to be a less straightforward deck (if you compare it with alrics pure powerhouse), more relying on hit and run and general mischief.

- u get to summon spligg, which will be an agony itself, i remember havin lots of fun with knockback and not me

- also you have a nice interaction with the spliggs revenge card from LoR

2) Seeds of Betrayal

- You get to spawn Zachareth, and FINALLY more situations to use that **** shadowrune (if aquired)

- Dominion is awesome

- I always had the position, that carddraw is one of the most important resources, since it will help you get to your key-cards much faster, which seems to be provided by zachareths deck

- also u get to interact with travelsteps - COOL!

3) Raging Infection (Bol'Goreth)

- I am not a fan of brute - you get 9 damage and die, because this ettin can crit for 3, i play expert blow and critical blow on it - ur dead! I always enjoyed to be a little more subtle, leeving heroes stunned, poisened or thrown away from their party

- to spread poison and disease amongst the party seems to be really interesting - and a nice alternative to a more straightforward play

- it will most likely interact with the new infector skilltree, which i still have to make up my mind about

so - how are your feelings on the new plot decks, which is your favourite lieutenant (agent), and will you purchase a plot deck?

I would follow an all-or-nothing way to adress your question.

If I buy one pack, I will want to try the other ones (theoretical analyses without testing things in real game situations never will convince me).

So the true question, for me, is: how much time will I resist my completist and compulsive-buying tendencies? :P

And the probable answer is: the time the packs come out in French... :D

Zacharith has always been my favorite LT, despite Valyndra being a dragon (which is pretty awesome!). I want him for his figure because I feel his plot deck will make my heroes very upset. I might play it anyhow >D!

Ariad and Queen Ariad would be my next pick. Traps are fun! I really love them! The fact I know little about them has even a harder pull.

In reality, I will most likely get the plot becks as we play the games where the figures would be used. As an example, my heroes will most likely play Raythin's quest the next time we play LoR. This means Marric is top priority. Along with Ariad, naturally.

i'm gonna take them all

no way i can choose. Maybe Valyndra and Bol goreth are the ones i wait the most for.

Out of the initial set, the one I'm most excited for is Eliza. I loved her in the Shadow Rune, and out of the six originals, she's by far my favorite. I'm really excited for Ariad (and Queen Ariad.. scary!) as well, but those will be released later than the originals.

I will get them all. I will try not but I will not be able to resist.

I hope they will be pretty even in terms of power - I don't want to just always be using Zacharith all the time because he has the most powerful deck.

Excited!

Valyndra and troll so far no plans for any other yet.

I will be getting all of the LTs over a period of time but from the first release I will be getting:-

1.) Belthir - just because I like the animation of the figure and my playing group struggle to deal with him flying.

2.) Eliza - I like what I have seen of her Endless Thirst Deck.

of the 2nd release I will be getting:-

1.) Bol,Goreth - depending on how his deck will interact with the OL Infector deck.

2.) Serena & Raythen - as they can be used as Heros as well.

I will also have to look at the cost of summoning these LTs to the encounter and how this will change the choice of open group creatures, anyone got any thoughts on this.

I'd definitely like to get the Farrows, as they're such a big part of the Terrinoth game franchise. I'm also seriously tempted by Serena and Raythen since they are both new heroes and new LTs.

Like others, I'll probably want them all once I have a few, though, so the others I'll likely collect slowly over time.

- You get to spawn Zachareth, and FINALLY more situations to use that **** shadowrune (if aquired)

As far as I am aware, the versions summoned by the plot deck cards can not wield relics as they are not, strictly speaking, lieutenants. FFG seems to have been very specific about calling them "agents" when referring to the summoned versions. Additionally, equipping relics to lieutenants happens DURING the setup phase of an encounter, whereas summoning an agent happens AFTER the setup phase.

Personally, I'm glad they did this as otherwise they'd have to worry about a LOT more balance issues in the game and quest design. Relics are supposed to be rare and the powerful ones are supposed to only be used in specific circumstances.

I'm more interested in the fig. than the deck.

Spligg: I love the fat goblin, If the Goblin Uprising deck can help the useless goblins it'll be real good.

Belthir: just realy cool fig.

All of them...

Yeah, I'm getting all of them at once, but here would be my recommendation if you were to get them one at a time.

Buy Splig first. He's been featured in every expansion so far, and he's likely to be featured in every expansion going forward. Since he shows up so often, he might as well have his own figure. Also, I don't feel that his token really captures his overall girth.

Next, buy the "overlord" lieutenants like Zacareth. They're supposed to be the ultimate bosses, so give them a plastic board presence.

By this time, if Serena and Raythien have been released, you should get them for the sake of adding more heroes. If not, see if your group has a favorite lieutenant and get her or him.

The only thing I see is that if Belthir is the one I wanted the most, his plot deck is too much about card of the basic 1, deck I don't use anymore.

Splig is the most usable one, for the miniature, but Zachareth looks the more fun to me

Serena and Raythen are not for now, but more in january-march :(

All of them, my only complaint of all the descent stuff is despite the really high production value is the lack of minis for lieutenants. This fixes that and more options are always solid.

That said those who have read the rules posted online know that Zacareth apparently cant be used in the shadow rune campaign which is a little disappointing but never mind.

Unless I missed something, I don't think that's the case. You just can't use the "Summon Zacareth" plot card in quests where he is already present. You can still use all of the other cards, and can still summon him as an agent (which isn't a lieutenant) during all of the other quests.

Never mind. I hadn't noticed that the PDF rules were posted by the time I saw this post.
