Rule queries for the APL and Navigator

By Rocket Launcher, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hi There

Some help is needed if you do not mind?

The Anti-pursuit-Laser...When does it activate? Is it during the movement phase and if so when? Also if I roll a critical on the attack die is it a critical and can it be evaded/defended against?

The Navigator on a shuttle...what do I class the stationary on the movement dial as? Is it a straight ahead or can I class it as a turn?

Thanks in advance...

TRL

The APL says when you should activate it on the card: "after an enemy executes a maneuver that causes it to overlap your ship." If you read the card it also states that the enemy does not suffer the rolled damage, but rather suffers one damage on either a hit or critical roll. This language is telling you that if you roll a crit or a hit on that die roll, the enemy suffers one damage. Since it does not say that the enemy suffers the rolled damage, it is safe to assume that this damage cannot be a critical damage. Because the enemy is not being attacked directly and is instead being instructed to suffer one damage, they cannot defend against it with rolls or evade tokens.

The stationary maneuver could not be changed with Navigator. It is a unique bearing (bearing in this case means the pictures symbol on the dial I think) and thus you have no other option on the dial to switch to.

That should cover it, I think? Let me know if anything is unclear or if you can make a case that I'm incorrect here, and fly casual!

Thanks for the response.

APL - Does this also mean passing over the ship?

No, not if it passes over the ship. ONLY if its maneuver causes its base to end up touching the APL ship's base because otherwise it would have overlapped. They actually just clarified this some in the FAQ they released today in the support section of the X-Wing site hub:

Q: When a ship’s maneuver template (but not
the ship’s base), overlaps a ship equipped
with Anti-Pursuit Lasers, does that ship
suffer the effects of Anti-Pursuit Lasers?
A: No.
Q: If a ship overlaps another ship equipped
with Anti-Pursuit Lasers, but as the result
of overlapping additional ships, it does not
touch the ship equipped with Anti-Pursuit
Lasers in its final position, does it suffer
any damage?
A: No.

You might try giving that FAQ a read, some useful info and rules clarifications:

Can you give a ship more than one APL?

Can you give a ship more than one APL?

No. At this time, a ship may have only one modification card. [the upcoming imperial guard TIE title will be an exception to that, but will not apply to large ships, and APL is only available to large ships.

And even the imperial guard card comes with a clause that prohibits using the same modification twice.

True, that
