Ships that need help

By Gungo, in X-Wing

I would like to see an a wing pilot that has an ability like horton salm, but for an a wing:

When attacking at Range 1 with a primary weapon, you may reroll any of your blank results.

This emphasizes the dogfighting prowess of an a wing, without adding any extra attack dice. I think someone mentioned something similar as a ship upgrade.

A-wings are fine, they just need a few more pilot options.. I think when more upgrades come out there will be a few more that fit well (besides stealth and ptl) give the a-wing more playable options too. At first I thought it was a point over priced but really a-wings do have their role and are one of the cheapest rebel ships so far.

A-wing is one of my favorite ships. Sure a A-wing swarm isn't as big as a TIE swarm, but A-wings are better than TIES.

My favorite Rebel List is Han Solo with three A-Wings. at 17 points they are way cheaper than the X-wing.

I don't know where people get the idea that 2 attack dice is bad. I wouldn't say that it is great, but it is definatly average. The only ships with 3 attack dice are supposed to be heavy hitters.

Number of ships with the given attack dice

1 dice: 1 ship

2 dice: 5 ships(if you count the outerrim smuggler)

3 dice: 4 (two of which are very expensive)

The TIE advanced is not a ship I run much (except for Vader) I would rather get more named pilots, or just other named pilots whose abilty isn't so lame.

I actually like TIE Advanced more now that I have TIE Bombers, specifically Captain Jonus.

I always want to see new upgrades, and new pilots. They always seem to add more depth and dimension to the game. But I don't think there are any ships that are broken and need to be fixed in the next expansion.

Also of all the EU ships the ones I really don't want to see are the super eliete TIEs. Most of them come from a Video game where having one ship be 10,000 times better than the others is fine. It just dosen't work as well in a tactical game.

someone posted this earlier, 4 green squad all w/ ptl and stealth. Once i can hunt down one more a-wing I'm going to try 5 prototypes w/ stealth. Might not be a tourny champ but hey at least it will be fun!

I've been making a 3 x-wing list.. really need some more good R2 units to choose from.. there are a few good ones, I just think that we need a couple more ha!

The "2 attack die = bad" comes around in part when they are firing at ships rolling 4 or more dice for defense. I also want to say your numbers of ships with a given attack dice table is off. It should be:

1 die: 1 ship (HWK*)

2 dice: 5.25 (3 TIE models, A&Y* Wings, ORS)

3 dice: 5.75 (X&B Wings, Interceptor, and all 3 large ships except for the ORS)

If not for the HWK the "average" is closer to 3 than 2. Also note that while the HWK and Y-Wing may have fewer than 3 dice they have options which give them 3 dice consistently. The HLC also gives some ships a consistent 4 dice option. Expendables may give some 4 dice and auto damage options but they cost a lot for what is a one time hit or miss.

As for those "Super Elite TIEs", by which I assume you mean the Defender, they can be "better" than existing ships in many categories but "bigger numbers" carries throughout the ships meaning it will cost more points to field that better ship. Then you're down to looking at ship efficiency which is a big reason that massive TIE swarms are still useful.

StevenO is correct.
