Has anyone ever thought to have done this to the old Starship Battles minis?

By SpectreSix, in X-Wing

I was cleaning, and kept looking over at my prized A-wing, and thought to myself, "I wish I had more of you guys." Then I looked down and saw this little guy off of his stand and base, and an extra X-wing Miniatures peg off to the side of the room:

So I kept looking for a base to put the peg on and sure enough, I found one. So I took the blue A-wing, the peg and the base and put them together, gluing the A-wing to the peg. So now I have 2 A-wings... Now I know that I can't put it in a tournament, but man it was handy.

It was one of the first things I thought of. You could do it, but there are a couple of problems.

1 - the game is more than the minis. you need cards and counters as well.

2 - the stat card on the bottom is pretty important. Not only does it give your stats for everyone to clearly see, but it also shows your firing arc

3 - you really need those tabs and a square base to use your movement markers.

4 - the old wizards minis just aren't as good as the FF ones.

5- you really really need movement dials

For proxies I just use a little adhesive clay on the bottom of the figure and then jab the flight stand into it. No permanent gluing necessary

everything else can be proxied by printing or handmaking (dials) easily enough. I have used micro machine and starship battles ships to proxy new ships before their official release (especially wave 2 when we had the dials in advance). For ship tokens I use existing ones from official ships, then write the ship stats on a piece of paper and use more adhesive clay to stick it to the ship token, that way I don't have to worry about inaccurate firing arcs on misprinted tokens

That's what I did... Probably going to do that for a few more Interceptors...
