Isotech merchandise (Beyond the Rim spoilers)

By martyjopson, in Game Masters

What exactly does Isotech sell? In the book we are told black market goods - weapons, weapon modifications are specifically mentioned. But from memory, and I don't have the rule book to hand there really aren't many things that fall into the black market or restricted category.

So when in part three of the scenario the PCs are given a chance to buy items from the Isotech showroom (p84, 3rd para) - what is on offer aside from thermal detonators?

Achy thought on how to expand the black market? What would the Empire want to restrict?

In this game line (including, for my purposes, Age of Rebellion), Restricted seems to mainly come up with equipment that is exclusive to the Imperial armed forces. It makes no sense whatsoever that X-wings and MonCal Cruisers are perfectly legal to own but owning a light repeating blaster is verboten. I'd suggest coming up with your own guidelines for what is truly Restricted in your game. This is somewhat better covered by earlier versions of Star Wars RPGs, so you might look to some of them for guidance.

Also, you could argue, that while much stuff isn't Restricted, you still have to get a license, the weapons are registered, and serial numbers and such stuff... on the black market these things are not necessarily part of the package, serial numbers can be filed off, no license required, no blaster owner register database - it's basically an illegal vendor and the item cannot be easily traced back to the seller, nor you if you should lose it ... also it can cause trouble if arrested and they notice that the weapon isn't registered, or isn't registered on you... of course, not anyone will want to as a part of the game, for some reason or other.

I also agree with Happy above here, the Restricted category seems to be more imperial exclusive than anything that could be considered illegal or strictly licensed. I can't remember about Frag grenades, but who really needs that except troops? Stun grenades, perhaps, but Frags? I would think that would be "easier" to get at a black market vendor, than your standard "weapons be here" shop on the high street... depends on your point of view I guess.

There's also poison and narcotics, and I'm sure we could all work together to make some OP illegal weaponry that could blow up in your face at any moment... Or we could just make some standard illegal-esque weaponry.

First off, I'd suggest a flamethrower. Flamethrowers have been in previous Star Wars RPGs, and I'm pretty sure they were always kind of illegal. It could deal 3 immediate damage, then set any flammable target aflame on a successful Ranged - Light check, at Average difficulty. It has short range and can hit a small area of targets, to the GMs discretion.

Also, I'm pretty sure rocket tubes are pretty illegal. As well as disrupters. And, as stated, light repeating blasters are pretty illegal, and also pretty wanted.

And, if the campaign so suits you, there are always lightsabers... I'm just saying.

for me I considered all restricted items to be either illegal to own. or only used by the Imperial Military

as for black market goods. Untraceable weapons, even powerful holdouts. "X-ray" blasters that have shots that are invisible. Scatter Crystals, when a blaster hits them they split the blaster beam... great for assassinations
