How viable is this ? I envy Tie Swarms, I really do. The closest I could think of so far is the A-Wing swarm.
But has anyone tried an X-Wing "swarm" ?

I have not tried the 4 Rookie X Swarm myself but have heard that it is decent and fun.
I can see a 4x Rookie with some decent upgrades as being pretty good, or an additional A-wing if you don't mind naked starfighters. You really want to watch your positioning, though. You'll be shooting last, so to make the most of this you will have to be at the top of your game in terms of maneuvering your ships to keep them out of fire arcs as much as possible.

4 Rookies makes 84 points, and the cheapest A you can buy is 17 points. This means that 4 X will not be able to drop an A in there without dropping down to 3 X. Some torpedoes or modifications or R2s might not be bad, or you could always upgrade some of the pilots.
Though I guess you could drop a naked RebOp in there? Idk why you would but hey maybe it could be used well.
Edited by HooblaDGNThere was a post about rebel swarms further down, but pretty sure you can get 5 ships in comfortably. 2 a wings and then either 3 x wings or 2 x wings and a b wing seems like a decent list, however I mainly play imperial so have less experience regarding rebel scum.
You can def do 5-ship builds for Rebels.
Prototype A
Prototype A
Rookie X
Blue B
Gold Y with Ion
The last three are of course interchangeable but you usually need 2 As unless you want to put naked RebOps in for them and that would probably be a bad idea.
But if you're looking for a swarm of X-Wings, you're stuck at 4. Which can still be awesome. Xs are great little ships.
I just posted in the swarm list my old list
Wedge w/ swarm
Biggs
Rookie
Y wing w/ion
3 xwings and a ywing. Hard hitting, everyone rolls 3 dice at range 2
Four X-wing builds have traditionally been one of the most popular effective rebel builds. Usually something like Wedge+Biggs+2 Rookies but not always.
As mentioned, an actual rebel "swarm" build would not consist of just x-wings as you cannot get the maximum number of rebel ships that way. Two prototype A-wings plus some combination of three X/B/Y-wings is the general blueprint for rebel swarms.
