Just wondering if anyone knew whether the license FFG has with Star Wars includes the prequels/clone wars? Obviously they've got the EU with the Hawk but was wondering if that's where the limits are?
Star Wars License
As far as I've heard, they only acquired the license for episodes IV, V, and VI + the Expanded Universe. Speculation has it (just talk between other players) that episodes I-III will most likely be a separate (but compatible) core set.
I'm sure they have the license for it, just aren't using it at the moment. That, and it appears LFL is slowly cutting down on Prequels stuff in order to prep for the new trilogy.
I can totally see another core set (to represent the different factions) with perhaps a republic fighter and a couple of droid fighters. Just wondered if it was a possibility or wishful thinking.
I'm certain a 100% compatible sister game for the prequels will be made eventually. I just think it is going to be some time, since Lucasfilm and Disney seem to be putting the kibosh on prequel trilogy stuff and are moving to putting emphasis on the OT in preparation for the sequels.
personally i hope they only make expanded universe and original trilogy ships, due to the new trilogy being not nearly as good as the original.
With Lucas selling to Disney, there may not be a license renewal down the road... you never know.
BUY!
BUY!
BUY!
prepare now for the Xpocalyose!
That would be incredibly stupid on Disney's part. Not only is this one of the hottest games in stores at the moment, it's based on one of the most popular and marketable titles ever made in the history of cinema.
We'll see it... probably just not soon.
It's taken me about 8 years to get over the hurt and emotional anguish that the prequels induced. I thought that I was done with all things Star Wars because of those abominations. I even passed on the first release of X-Wing Miniatures because I didn't want to open those wounds again. But, a few weeks ago, I gave X-Wing a try and now I'm hooked. I really hope that they do not try to do an expansion for the prequels/clone wars. I think there's plenty of material still to draw from without trying to pull in a "clone wars" brand.
I think the license being particular to any one timeframe is a myth. I would argue that we already have prequel material in the form of the Senator's shuttle.
I don't see any reason FFG can't put out prequel stuff, but for me personally I don't know if I could bear flying an N-1 starfighter alongside an X-Wing. I prefer that they stick to the Rebellion/New Republic timeframe just for chronology's sake.

I agree. There is really nothing from the prequels I would buy or want play with except Natalie Portman.
I agree with a4rino, that I'd prefer they stick to the Rebellion/NewRepublic timeframe and use the prequel designs in the current timeframe rather than mixing timeframes.
I wouldn't mind a few ships from the Clone Wars series, mainly the Z-95 Headhunter and a fully armored Y-wing.
This comes up every few months. Some prequel material (along with game, book, and comic EU material) was used in this game already. Senator's Shuttle and Seismic Charges being the two examples off the top of my head. I don't think licensing is much of a consideration; meaning I don't think it's as black and white as "prequel license = yes/no". They'll almost certainly get the green light, if they want it.
I think the leading theory is that if a Republic-era game is made, it won't be exactly considered an expansion. That should make it easy enough for anyone to exercise the option—bear with me here— not buy it.
There is approximately no way it would result in X-Wings and N-1 frolicking together in any setting, outside of individual households.
I enjoyed the prequels (a totally valid opinion, which you likely don't care about), along with [statistically] over half of the people who watched them. And—granted—many people didn't like them (an equally-valid opinion, which I equally don't care about). But seriously, you guys don't think that whimpering about Lucas ruining your childhood isn't, like, a decade old at this point?? It's neither soon enough to be relevant, nor distant-past enough to give you vintage hipster cred.
Get a life. Just chill.
LOL, aadh...Fine you like the movies...no one gives a flip. I for sure don't care about them, and it's not because George somehow Ruined my Childhood. He can't ruin what is in the past that no one can touch. They are just BAD MOVIES, IMO. None of the ships, IMO, are worth getting attached to nor really exemplify a good transition from "Old" to "New".
I choose to not support prequels because I do not feel like they work well with the Original Trilogy's base. They would look awkward and out of place, like playing Star Trek's Attack Wing Ships with X-wing. It just would not fit. They're an Eye-Sore. You do whatever you want with your money, and I will do what I please with mine; but I can assure you, my money won't be spent on Prequel Models unless it's a Model of Natalie Portman.
So Boohoo, get a life, chillax, whatever...about your precious prequels which were probably liked by a lot less than 50% of people who saw them because they are just Poorly Done Movies. So take off your blinders and suck it up when people say...F' that Prequel Crap!

Wow, links to redlettermedia. Original. And it isn't enough to just bash the prequels, but those that like them and want to see the ships. Because people can't like different things.
Anyway, it is a pointless argument to get upset about. FFG has been explicit that this is a Rebels vs Imperials game. No Seperatists or Republic fighters. Between FFG's amazing willingness to dumpster dive the EU, LFL's recent hesitance to keep the era in the limelight, and the upcoming Rebels cartoon and sequels, there is little reason for FFG to make the sister game. But would a 100% compatible, but separate game, really hurt anything? You could mix and match if you wanted, or remain "pure"? Will it sell as much as what X-wing has until now? Probably not. But it would likely sell more than the upcoming all EU waves. And I'm sure FFG like money. So, bring on Jedi Starfighter in 2016!
Captain Kagi is from Episode III, where he piloted Palpatine's shuttle. Strange he didn't get a promotion in 20 years...
If FFG does go the prequels route, I sincerely hope it's in the form of a separate but compatible game called Jedi Starfighter or something. The factions, of course, would be Republic and Separatist.
In the Star Wars Starship Battles game, the only factions were Dark Side and Light Side, and you could freely mix, for example, Republic ships and Imperial ships, which begged the question, "If Darth Vader destroys Anakin Skywalker, does he also cease to exist?"
I totally forgot about the senator's shuttle. So yes, I guess that answers my question. Although I tolerated the prequels the main reason for my asking was due to Clone Wars. Love that show. Can't wait for Rebels.
I always wanted to fly some X-Wings around the Enterprise. I think that would be great, and not an eye sore at all.
Everyone has different opinions. There is no right or wrong when it comes to peoples opinions. It's just like food, different flavours. Some people love sushi, while others hate it.
Personally I would love pre-quel ships. Love to fly some Jedi Star fighters against X-wings or some Tie fighters.
Concur. Clone wars was great, really looking forward to rebels!
I must say I enjoyed the new Trilogy very much. A few things were not great, but otherwise awesome in the end.
the prequals never happened...
i keep telling myself
Personally, I like most of the designs from the prequels. The only real exception is the Star Skiff from Episode III, because the interior blatantly doesn't make sense (it's not like the Falcon where I can fudge it around in my mind; there is literally no room for there to be a stairwell or ramp leading to the cockpit!).
I love the Naboo N-1 because it's got this grace about it, and the Republic Cruiser from Episode I is one of my favorites as well. The Gunship was a pretty cool aircraft, and the ARC-170 has grown on me.
None of them really eclipse the OT ships, but they do have a charm about them.
Even having seen the RLM reviews I still like the PT. Not as much as I once did, but I can still sit down and watch them, because they have that feel of an old corny serial to me. The acting was just as bad in Flash Gordon, as were the stories, but I still like to watch that show.
I'd never actually say the PT is *better* than the OT. In fact, I hold the opinion that the OT deserved a worthier successor than that because of what a phenomenon it caused. But that doesn't stop me from pulling out the DVDs every once in a while.
I like to think that everyone is entitled to have an opinion, and nobody is entitled to tell another person that their choices in entertainment are wrong because it's all subjective anyway. There are a few objective ways you can criticize a person by, but entertainment has always been outside that realm because different people will have a different perception of the film, TV show, song, etc.
I'm pretty sure that they do. I listened to an interview with one of the developers who said, when asked whether there were plans or not to introduce prequel ships, that there were no plans currently to do that. This suggests to me that they have the rights to use prequel ships if they want.
