Force Pike - Why is it a two-handed weapon?

By HappyDaze, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I think one of the other confusing points for me is mixing up the idea of the force pike with the Electrostaffs wielded by the IG-100 Magnaguards in Revenge of the Sith and the clone wars. I think I am clearer now. If anything while the force pikes are mis-named in that they bear little resemblance to a medieval pike. The various pictures on Wookiepedia and other media has them clearly with a handle designed for two hands. They likely are about the same length as a lit lightsaber, which for the most part is wielded as a two handed weapon. They could certainly be used one-handed, but they function best with two... Perhaps adding a setback dice if the wielder needs to use only one hand.

Weird, I've never noticed that the Royal Guard force pikes were so short before!

I remember I had a royal guard as a toy when I was a kid, and he came with a pike that was a little longer than he was tall, so two meters made sense for that, but they are clearly not that big in the movie.

Unless it's significantly heavier than it looks, I agree it's odd that you can't use it one-handed. (Assuming, of course, that the force pike in the book is supposed to be the same weapon the royal guard is equipped with)

I always assumed, for some reason, that the Force Pikes seen being carried in the films were telescoping weapons. They just kinda look like it..but now I'm not sure why I've always thought that.

Anyway, people might be getting confused with this one as well: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Static_pike

This is a VERY long weapon, and is otherwise very similar to a Force Pike in most respects (piercingly sharp, range of stun power settings, etc).

There's a deleted scene in ROTJ where the Imperial guard brandishes his pike against Darth Vader (bad idea). He's holding it with 2 hands.
