Conflict Over Criton's Point - League Season 0

By toxicwisdom, in X-Wing Organized Play

Welcome to the "Conflict Over Criton's Point" league for the X-Wing miniatures game ... for starters - let me just welcome those that at here now, and those that will be added in the days ahead. Second - I do not want to think of this as MY league, but rather as OUR league ... together I hope we can make this a success The league itself is designed to be an independent entity, which favors no venue over another. The games to be played revolve around an open schedule, and players are encouraged to use this group page to schedule their games against opponents when & where they like.

Looking at Season 0 (the trial & error period) to run from October 1st to December 31st, and with Season 1 (official) to begin January 1st.

To the best of my knowledge, these zones (venues) are considered active territories in the Outer Rim. Please feel free to incude them in battle reports, scheduling a game, tournament announcements, etc - we can edit the list as need be.

=== Section 01: Introduction ===

"Conflict Over Criton's Point" is a resource management league based in the Star Wars universe. It's foundation is the X-Wing Miniatures Game from Fantasy Flight Games, and it's support comes from the fans that enjoy playing.

Unlike some league formats where spam lists and netbuilds are often in the top tier, this one challenges players to build a competitive roster with a limited number of options - common ships including upgrades can be fielded any number of times, but no more than one of each named card can be added to a roster.

League members assume the role of either Generals for the Rebel Alliance or Imperial Dark Lords ... or in some cases Rogue Agents, manipulating both sides of the struggle.

=== Section 02: Rosters ===

Each player begins the league with a 600 point roster, which includes 6 non duplicate 100 point fleets plus a reinforcement pool.

When the term "common" is used, it refers to any non named ship and / or non named upgrade. When the term "unique" is used, it refers to any named ship and / or named upgrade - these are marked with a bullet next to the card's title.

Any number of commons can be used in a player's roster, provided the non duplicate restriction is met. However, no more than one of each unique ( by type ) can be included in the roster = a player could have both Chewbacca ( YT-1300 ) and Chewbacca ( Co Pilot ) in their roster, but keep in mind as per the core rules that both versions cannot be fielded in the same list.

As Generals for the Rebel Alliance, a player's roster will consist solely of 600 points worth of Rebel ships plus any allowed upgrades.

As Imperial Dark Lords, a player's roster will consist solely of 600 points worth of Imperial ships plus any allowed upgrades.

As Rogue Agents, a player's roster must include 300 points worth of Rebel ships plus any allowed upgrades [ AND ] 300 points worth of Imperial ships plus any allowed upgrades.

In either of the cases above, any unused points within a single 100 point list are placed in the roster's reinforcement pool.

=== Section 03: Pairings ===

Season 0 runs from October 1st ( Tuesday ) 2013 to December 31st ( Tuesday ) 2013 = during that period each player is expected to complete six games using their six lists.

Note: there will not be a playoff schedule, as this season is purely a trial & error season. The official Season 1 is scheduled to begin on January 1st ( Wednesday ) and will include a playoff schedule.

The league has an open schedule during the regular season, in that there are no forced pairings - rather it is up to the players themselves to schedule where & when against other players. League members are encouraged to use the CoCP group page on Facebook to post availability and find an opponent. League members are also encouraged to make every effort possible during the regular season to not play the same opponent twice.

Players are responsible for having two copies of their list at game time - one for themselves, and one for their opponent. These copies can either be clearly written or a print out from a list builder source.

One suggestion to help manage your roster is to keep an active folder = a simple three ring binder for example with enough room for pages and / or print outs ... 6 for your lists, 6 for your opponents lists, and 1 for your reinforcement pool.

Players must have an accurate and available record of their roster during all games.

=== Section 04: Games ===

All games during Season 0 are considered to be Seek & Destroy missions ( scenarios will be taken into consideration in future seasons ) and the placement of Asteroids are in effect.

As a resource management league and in the best of intents for all players, each game played has a 10 turn limit.

I ask that players keep notes and offer feedback during this season, as the turn limit may be adjusted in Season 1.

Players will not feel the full impact of this limitation as playoffs are not scheduled for this season, however it will give a proper understanding of how the scoring is resolved ... and at least some insight into what to expect when playoffs will be scheduled.""

=== Section 05: Scores ===

After the completion of ten turns ( or in the event one player has no more ships on the table ) each player will receive a number of points equal to what they have remaining of their list plus what was eliminated ( destroyed / used / etc ) from their opponent's list.

The easiest calculation is to subtract what you have remaining from 100 points, then add the opposite result of your opponent to that number.

Example = Player A ( Rebel ) uses a 96 point list against a 100 point list used by Player B ( Imperial )

At the end of the game...

Player A has only a Red Squadron Pilot ( 23 ) remaining with an R2 Astromech ( 1 ) and unused Proton Torpedoes ( 4 ) - so far Player A has earned 28 points for what survived the battle ... 72 points were eliminated ( four from being unused )

Player B has only an Academy Pilot ( 12 ) remaining alongside a Saber Squadron Pilot ( 21 ) - so far Player B has earned 33 points for what survived the battle. The player would have earned 36 points if the Interceptor didn't lose its Stealth Device ( 3 ) during the game ... but as such 67 points were eliminated.

Player A scores: 28 + 67 = 095 points

Player B scores: 33 + 72 = 105 points

Player A adds the Red Squadron Pilot, the R2 Astromech, the Proton Torpedoes, and the unused 4 points to his reinforcement pool.

Player B adds the Academy Pilot and the Saber Squadron Pilot to his reinforcement pool.

The player that won the game ( B ) must report the score on the group page, and his opponent ( A ) must confirm the results. This battle report could be as simple as posting the scores only with confirmation, or as a detailed narrative retelling the battle from one or both perspectives.

A win adds 7 points to the player's unused point total in their reinforcement pool, and a loss adds 3 points to a player's unused point total in their reinforcement pool.

=== Section 06: Playoffs ===

Invite to the playoffs is based on two things: the first is the number of players in the league...

Up to 08 = top four

Up to 12 = top six

Up to 16 = top eight

...if a league exceeds 16 players then it is recommended to either divide the league into smaller groups of near equal size ( by region if necessary ) to accommodate the playoff bracket above, or have only the top eight qualify for playoffs regardless of the number of league members.

...if a league exceeds 16 players then it is recommended to either divide the league into smaller groups of near equal size ( by region if necessary ) to accommodate the playoff bracket above, or have only the top eight qualify for playoffs regardless of the number of league members.

The second is a player's Points Per Game Average ( PPGA ) which is calculated by dividing a player's total points earned by the number of games played. The highest ranked players will qualify for the playoff rounds based on the number of spots available above - note: a league member must have played a minimum of 6 games to be eligible.

All playoff rounds are considered to be one last sweep = in that players can field any combination of ships / upgrades that remain in their reinforcement pool ( even using the same unique in a different list provided it survived any previous battle ) plus spend any unused points from previous regular season lists. Note: unused points can be spent on upgrades only - you cannot add any new ships to your reinforcement pool ... the only ones you will be using are the ones that survived previous battles.

All players that qualify for the playoffs will have their Points Per Game Average ( PPGA ) reset to zero. Each qualified player must schedule & complete a game against each other qualified league member within the allowed post season time frame = one month. Scoring is resolved throughout the playoffs the same way it is resolved during the regular season - the player with the highest PPGA will be awarded the title of Season Champion.""

=== Section 07: League Structure ===

I would like to think of this league as OUR league rather than MY league - to some degree, Camelot's Round Table.

I have provided only a few basic rules to serve as the league's backbone - it is the responsibility of all of us however to review & playtest the material, and make changes if necessary.

Note = this information applies mostly to the local Facebook group page for the COCP league ... Joe M and Lou C have the title of Admin on the CoCP Facebook group page, with Joe M having the additional title of League Operator ( LO )

The two of them, plus all other players, are ALL considered to be league members - with the exception of an issue that would need to be resolved with a vote ... without players there would not be a league - in that case Joe M would not be able to vote if he would bring an even number to the table. Otherwise, a rule dispute will be resolved by a majority vote.""

=== Section 08: Zones ( LGS ) ===

This section is reserved for a list of venues ( LGS = Local Game Store ) where league members can play. This list will be updated as league members provide us with the names and locations of venues not already on the list.

The venues are also listed as Zones to offer players a location within the Outer Rim where battles can be reported and where tournaments are scheduled - these are designated by the appropriate state and the nearest major highway.
